My mouth tastes bloody

But that's okay. I asked the bartender at work today if I could have a free glass of scotch, and she obliged me providing I take out her recycling

Not a euphemism. Literally, I was just to take out her recycling because it was pissing rain outside
Huzzah

Long day at work though. Got two out of the things I really needed that day. Free scotch and a pleasant kiss (partially interrupted by another server, but that's okay)

I made the best mash potatoes though. Proud of that ****

Just got back from the interview. I personally think that I may have derped out a little from nerves at the beginning, but I managed to get back on track. Turns out that it was a quasi-informal interview to get a feel for the people who have applied. The guy asked about my ambitions, home life and as much personal history as I felt comfortable telling him.
Told him the same amount that anyone who's met me knows: had a rough time at school, love science, etc.
Now I just have to wait for a call later this evening to say if it's going further or not.
Pass or fail, at least I got a small amount of experience in regards to being interviewed and not being reduced to a stuttering mess.

Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over 1000!!!!! (pages)
Then there's the times my brother finds kitty passed out upside down on the floor and decides he wants to rub kitty.  Kitty does not have the same relationship with my brother as he does with me.  Only I can rub the passed out kitty.  When brother rubs kitty's belly, kitty instantly goes venus flytrap full of teeth and brother screams bloody murder.  I think my brother might have the dumb because once his hand/foot/etc heals up it happens all over again. :)
Yes, I've seen many fall victim to the Belly Trap.  Most recently, my almost-two-year-old son.  We've got three cats, and he was going for the oldest and most aggressive of all three girls.  She was spread out like a warm breakfast on the living room rug.  He starts doing his "meow" imitation and goes for the belly (as in, tried to bear hug the belly).  Nutmeg knows she's not supposed to harm the children, and I think that's all that saved him from being disemboweled.  That and she was so shocked by the whole, "What the crap is the Furless-Loud-Thing trying to do to me???" that her reflexes were more concerned with getting away than inflicting righteous fury.  He got off light.  A couple shallow scratches to the arms.

We had ourselves a talk after that about kitties, "Belly traps," and such.  Don't think any of it sank in.  He just replied, "Mao?" with this hurt and confused look on his face.  Oh well.  He'll learn.  It's pretty clear to me that Nutmeg likes him, or he wouldn't still be alive.   :p

ours sometimes baits you, she rubs up against you for a fuss, you then start absent mindedly fussing her and suddenly you have 4 pointy teeth sticking into your hand

usually she is quite a pleasant cat but moments like that I just want to strangle her.

ohh and yes she does the belly trap thing as well.

Sounds ok, when you said "hard time at school" in what sense? It's ok to lie at these things, or simply omit non-relevant details.

Belly traps don't exist for my cat
...mostly considering she'll be sitting somewhere, and I'll just come on by and flop her over to her belly myself

She accepts defeat rather easily

As for interviews, yeah. Omitting is an effective means to trim fat. Lying however, I disagree with it being okay.
Though I don't see how home life or irrelevant personal history that doesn't relate to your job are even grounds for interview questioning. Never have I been asked "How's life at home", anything personal unrelated to my previous employment, or that isn't simply an elaboration of what was on the application form (or about my sketchbook that I had with me, but that was simply because he was curious). Personally, I'd of just asked "How does this question relate to the position I am applying for".

I have been asked however, about ambitions. Understandable question as it can be tied into how you figure the company will help you achieve said goal.

I feel like the "ambitions" thing would/will trip me up royally.  "Hmm...well I want money so that I can buy the **** I like.  Next question?"

Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over 1000!!!!! (pages)
Yeah, I hate that question.

It's biased against those of us without lofty ambitions! :mad2:

"Expanding my work experience so I can develop a wide range of skills"
"Working on the side while I continue my studies"
"Making this insane mod for a game called FreeSpace 2"
Boom.

I hate the following question though. It's based on the assumption that you like to do guesswork without any point of reference (it's like asking someone to measure a liquid in ounces by pouring it into an irregular shaped vase while blindfolded):
"What do you think sets you apart from the other candidates?"
"Well I don't ****ing know. I haven't met any of the bastards so I can't make an accurate guess or concoct a decent enough thought process to boost my ego"

Last interview, I actually stated that I disliked that question. However, he was very helpful by telling me a cookie cutter response which is what interviewers will most likely look for
"I'm hard working, reliable, and willing to do whatever I can to benefit the company"

Went to a Dodge dealership and then a Ford dealership. Drove a Dart SXT but then found out about its price. :O Found out I can get a cheap new car (Fiesta S) for ~$13K or a reasonably equipped Fiesta SE for $15.8K.

Got together with some old friends from high school today, and randomly decided to go on an adventure.  So we went to Luray Caverns.  Pretty cool place, I recommend it if it's not too far and you like that sort of thing.

Some photos.  Sorry for the cruddy quality, was using a point-and-shoot.

Now I want to go exploring a non-commercial cave, and preferably not die. :V  Maybe I'll try Mammoth.  I hear they have tour options with small groups and only headlamp illumination, and less artificial walkways.  That'd be pretty sweet.

I've been to Luray Caverns. One of the most interesting things there was the stalactite organ.

Caverns are bloody cool. The only one I've been to I can't remember, but it was a decade ago and somewhere in the states
Some pretty crazy photos there regardless.

So I saw Skyfall with my parents yesterday evening. Great movie, and Bardem's performance was bloody amazing. Best villain in the series really.
But I do agree that was a waste of scotch

This was followed by dinner at my workplace. I am disappointed in the performance of the newguy server, but because of an error he did, we got an additional ten dollars off the bill, as well as 20% from myself.

And randomly, server gal was working that night, so unintentionally, she met my parents.
But that's okay. When we were talking about plans for Thursday, she figured she'd pull some strings to get into the aquarium for free and make out in front of the turtles

She had me at free, but that last part was an added bonus

Re: W-H-I-Y-L It's over 1000!!!!! (pages)
I'm lucky enough to live within a few hours driving time of Carlsbad Caverns. The cave is damned awesome... even has an underground food court at the bottom.

The really cool thing to do, though, is to head out to the mouth of the cave at sunset. Why? Bats. Millions of bats! It's quite a sight.

Been to several other caves in the American southwest. Only other one that was really interesting was the "Ice Cave"... which is pretty small (little more than a glorified hole in the ground), but remarkable in that the temperature drops about 50 degrees (Fahrenheit) in ten feet as you descend, which is kind of freaky. There's a lake of solid ice at the bottom. Never melts, even in the desert summer.

Whoa, that's freaky, indeed.  That's one hell of a cold trap!  Kind of reminds me of the submerged sea-caves that have a layer of fresh water on top, and the salinity changes so suddenly that you can actually see it.  Totally cool.  (Would never go cave-diving though, **** THAT ****)

I'd love to see Carlsbad and the surrounding parkland.  Lechuguilla is freaking amazing, too, though I probably have a higher chance of someday getting into space then going inside of that cave.  Still... I can dream, can't I? :(
