The range on these things is about the size of a room, if not less, so if someone wants to hijack your transmissions and keylog them that way they probably need to be sitting on your lap.

it should be encrypted, but you never know. if its logitech or some other reputable brand, probibly. if it is an el cheapo no-name keyboard from china, **** no.

unlock charges after initial contract periods on contract phones is a scam, i dont mind £5-15, but h3g once tried to charge me something similar to unlock an Ericsson 800I, 3 years after I took out the 18 month contract on it    I know pre-paid phones is a murkier area but there should still be limits in place

Bluetooth is naturally hard to crack into, you'll need the MAC addresses of both devices (The keyboard and the dongle or transceiver it's talking to) and something to figure out when and where they're going to do a frequency hop. This is perhaps one reason why you don't see many FOSS software for the PS3 controller on the PC.

it can be hard to crack into, but that requires the manufacturer to give a damn first. they start cutting corners in the firmware, etc, and all those built in security features break down. bluetooth isnt the only wireless standard either (id love to see it blown out of the water in favor of something better, like those nordic ism single chip radios are pretty awesome, but as far as i can tell, arent licensed for consumer products).

Yeah, another thing that'll make it even harder for someone to hack my bluetooth keyboard is the fact that I don't have a bluetooth keyboard. At least, it's got a USB thingamajob i have to plug into the PC... so that means it's not bluetooth, right? Idunno derp.

I think that would be Bluetooth, unless it's just a plain wireless radio signal like on a cordless phone (do they still use that for wireless stuff?).  The dongle would just be your receiver unit.
