the more i try to use my new laptop to give it a fair shake before sending it back, the more i absolutely hate windows 8 and to a lesser extent the laptop itself. 8.1 already killed the SLI (second 750m via ultrabay), but now the last batch of updates windows installed broke the nvidia chips altogether and it's now using intel HD. i've realized that the display, while one of the few actual 1080 ones on a laptop, is awful. colors are extremely washed out and it has the worst shifting i've ever seen on any monitor. overall this thing is inferior in almost everything that matters for its use to my old one from 2006.

I'm thinking it's the laptop BIOS.

My Sager NP8250 works like a champ with Win8, with occasional crashes.

the non-working SLI is a known problem that it's up to lenovo to fix. the vbios on the graphics chips needs updated to work with 8.1. **** knows why BOTH of them stopped working though. and for all the 'intel HD (4200 in my case) is actually pretty good,' it is outperformed by the 2006 beast with a core 2 duo and mobility x1400. at least in flash games. haven't played anything 3d or HD videos yet. the latter will stutter and frame drop horribly on the old one if it's in low power mode, but play just fine when i let the cpu run full power.

A shiny Radeon HD 5770 just arrived.

To replace old HD 4650. I am still under impression, though. That HD 4650 was able to run Mass Effect, FS, WRC 1 & 2, Gothic III, and some else stuff... In full HD! The power source in my PC is also interesting... heavy (~3 kg). Supposedly its max output is 230W, but while running 3 HDDs, a DVD, HD4650 (and rest) in some serious gaming i think I'm exceeding the value

Both graphics costed ~70 $.

You are going to do well with that 5770 then, I am still rather suprised at it's ability to run BF4 on full hd with a... non competetive framerate (although I suspect I am more CPU limited then GPU limited atm).

Drama/bad **** is happening down at the wastewater treatment plant where my dad works. One of the operators killed himself several months ago. One of the girls working there quit. Another guy who we thought had a stroke turned out to have lung cancer which migrated to his brain. Another guy is going to get a job somewhere else in the spring. And to top it all off, neither of the two new hirees were able to pass their exams.

And seriously. HD 5770 uses 90W in-game, 3HDDs & DVD - 20 W. Add the processor - it's 70W. I wonder if the power source will work, old HD 4650's box said that it requires 400W power source

Grab a better PSU, at least a 500W or so. The 200W will last for non-gaming activaties, but any sustained gaming would likely cause power fluctuations/bad stuff to happen. Newegg, and a few other vendors, offer a quick PSU calculator that seem to be fairly accurate.

Newegg tells me that my current configuration requires 330W. Interesting. The computer was used it that config for gaming for about 2,5 years.

Power source never suffered any problems.
My PC is Fujitsu Esprimo p5600. That (case, motherboard, processor, HDD and the PSU, ~ 50 $

) stuff is very "non-standard" :

As you see, the source is pretty big and heavy

Yeah, i think my equipement will keep up. Me has a 350W Feel III somewhere, just in case. I rather worry if my processor will be too slow for HD 5770.

Made my exams and got the results yesterday. Out of 54 persons I'm the third best with 82% in the theoretical part. Practical coming on 21st January. Looking forward to it

I am so done with living in a room in a shared house. Too many cases of food disappearing and other weirdness. Thank God I'm moving out in a week and a half.

EDIT: Wait, maybe I actually did finish it and that's why there's none left. Now I can't remember. See, that's the thing -- after your food has mysteriously disappeared once, then you're forever questioning your sanity/memory whenever food that you thought would be in the fridge isn't there.

EDIT 2: And yes, I've labeled my stuff at times, but it's not clear how much it even helps because of ^

EDIT 3: Aaaaand my half-gallon of milk disappeared, welp, it was almost gone anyway. It's not like people don't know that it's not theirs; I've always had mine in the same spot in the fridge every time. I'll label the new half-gallon, much good may it do me. Like I said,
