So here's the deal: Everything Terran that I have to shoot is a Ulysses. The wing of Hercs has become Ulysses, the wing of Loki's have become Ulysses. It goes on. Why? This happened right after I started a new pilot, strangely. (Or to me, at least.) Whatup?

Most probable cause is that ships defined in the mission files are not found from the currently used set of table files. This results in them being replaced by the default ship class which happens to be GTF Ulysses (on normal setup). In other words... Make sure your mission files and tables files are meant to work together.

Or you have an unwanted table file somewhere. Check any \data\tables folders for files. And make sure you don't have any extra vps in \freespace\. Or the mod folder you're using.

That's odd.  The default ships.tbl should be in root_fs2.vp.  Make sure you don't have any weird mods selected or anything...

In these situations, the best solution is to pretend that the GTVA and the NTF have gone into deficit spending and have cut their defense budgets accordingly.

Perhaps you have a campaign selected that's not for the current mod.  e.g., perhaps you have FreeSpace 2 campaign selected whilst playing FSPort MOD?

No, if its InfernoR1, it wouldn't be a Ulysses. It would be a Vesuvius. There are no Ulysses in Inferno. The tbl was purged.

No. I remember my first time installing Inferno and all the corvettes in the beginning were turned into Ulysses.

Maybe this was an older build or something, but that's the way it was.

So what happens when a ulysses playing the part of a destroyer tries to fire it's once existing beams?

Won't happen. Either the game has already crashed because  the fire-beam SEXP referred to a non-existent subsystem or if beam-free-all'd the code notices the ship has no beams and ignores it.

I remember once a helluva long time ago, I tried to play a mission, and the destroyer came in as an Ulyssess.

The old, malfunctioning Destiny of Peace was at least. Even though there was some challenge in trying to tackle Ulysseses with an Ursa.

Ulysses are not easy to kill.
They're annoying, second to SF Dragons.

Or maybe, I just never figured out how to do it.

Depends on their AI level. Set the max one and Ulysses fighters are more than annoying.
