Circuit city can't handle satire

Quote from: Consumerist
Circuit City headquarters has ordered their stores to "destroy all copies" of the latest issue of Mad Magazine, according to an anonymous tipster. The retailer apparently isn't amused by the 4-page spoof of "Sucker City." Inside, Mad's 1-page preview and headquarters' response.

I don't really care about what circuit ****ty did. It's awesome what mad magazine did. Check this **** out

I'm surprised circuit ****ty didn't try to slap a lawsuit on Mad instead. Usually that's because big dumb corporations seem to be doing that these days for anything rather small.

Because in this age of instant global communications, the best way to make something go away is to order all hard copies destroyed.

Well, I can certainly understand them not wanting to sell this particular issue of the magazine in their own stores, and what else are you gonna do with a gigantic shipment of magazines?

Something less dramatic.  Infact it might have been smarter to just leave it be...too many corporations try and clamp down on something and it completely blows up in their face.  This hilarious ad will now be posted on dozens of forums, news groups, and other communities across the internet.  If it has staying power then YouTube videos are next.

If they had done nothing then it'd have passed along as surely as the wind.

Re: Circuit city can't handle satire
I like how they have a map graphically detailing that circuit city is across the street from best buy. i especially like what's in the white box at the bottom of the page. That's just great.

As a gesture of our apology and deep respect for the folks at MAD Magazine, we are creating a cross-departmental task force to study the importance of humor in the corporate workplace and expect the resulting Powerpoint presentation to top out at least 300 pages, chock full of charts, graphs and company action plans.

Re: Circuit city can't handle satire
Funny thing is that if you look at the picture only a couple of jokes are directly aimed at Circuit City anyway. Unless Circuit City commonly hand out flyers like this in the US and other companies don't this could easily have been Best Not Buy (although that's not as funny).

Yeow! All I've ever done in PowerPoint was to do a thirteen-page presentation that took up 429MB of hard drive space!

Speaking of which, have any one of you seen a video called Big Bill Hell's on YouTube?
