I actually like Earth ships because they look like they've been built by Earth (as opposed to looking alien built), they look rugged, heavily armed and armored, they look like they've been build utility and function in mind. The Prometheus was prototype of all future larger human vessels. It served its purpose and helped make the Daedalus class a better warship. As far as I know, Daedalus is better than Prometheus in every way. I like both designs.
Goa'uld ships looked alien, intimidating and quite stylish, same goes for their weapons like the staff. While staffs power output varied quite greatly depending on situation, O'Neill when showcasing P90's with Carter to the rebel jaffas demonstrated the difference of human weapon design.
But I agree with Nuke that Ancient ships don't look that good. Orion even lacks the impression I get from Earth ships, so it's just ugly.
What annoys me about Earth vessels now, is that thanks to the asgard weapons and shields they're now one of the strongest known ships in both SG-1 and Atlantis. They don't seem to have much problems in destroying Ori warships or Replicators Orions, not to mention wraith ships don't stand a chance. The only saving grace of balance is that Earth does not seem to have the resources to build a fleet of warships, not fast at least.
The Asgard Core is another annoyance. I liked when Earth was the underdog, now they have the Core and all technology and information Asgard had. Meh.
The Voyager comparison's broke anyways, we know it only takes 18 days for the Daedalus to cross the damn intergalatic void to Pegasus, and I doubt that's even our nearest neighbor. (Hyperspace drive in Stargate eats Star Trek warp drive for a snack.) And if all else fails you can find a damn black hole and build a gate to get home. (Which I really have to assume they can do by now...)
I doubt distance will be the problem. I guess initially they have no control where the ship goes and when they gain control of the ship, they may have other priorities than returning directly to home.
