Hi guys, I hope I'm posting this into the correct section and everything. I only discovered Fs Open yesterday thanks to your board, I used the installer to get everything to work, and right now I'm trying to play the first game's campaign. Everything works beautifully except for one problem I really can't figure out:  after the first missions against the Shivans, I am supposed to unlock new weaponry like the avenger gun, and interceptor missiles. However none of them appear in the loadout screen, and even in the advanced training, when you are supposed to learn the use of 'ceptor missiles, the game actually doesn't load me up with any of them (funny thing is the instructor actually tells me "as you see, you have been outfitted with interceptor missiles", well NO! My missiles rack is empty!)
As far as it may interest you, I am playing on a laptop, 2gb ram, geforce 7300 videocard, i'm using openal as suggested to run the game, and well as I said I used the FSO installer to get things to work, so I didn't actually tweaked much with media vps and such (can't really understand too well what they are ). Only messed a bit with the features, like graphic details and such, from the launcher.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance

i'm sorry, I forgot to mention: I tried to search on previous threads from people who had my same problem (stuck with basic weapons and can't get better ones), however it appears that their problem was because of a corrupt profile because they had changed from one mod-campaign to another, with the same profile pilot. I have only played FSport so far, no other mods or others campaigns, so I doubt that's the probem

Try downloading This build and run the debug version.  Then post the FS2_open.log from the data directory.

You don't get new weapons immediately after encountering the Shivans. At least if I recall correctly.

That's a flaw in the mission itself. Some people can get it to work with a fixed mission file, but even that doesn't always work. There is a "Skip Training" mission in the upper right corner of the screen during the training mission briefing.

OpenGL is graphics-related. It's an API, sort of like Direct3D, or DirectX. And indeed you should have it selected from the Launcher. OpenAL is audio-related. You just need to install it and forget about it. People often mix these two things up.

If you are still certain that things do not work like they should, run the debug build and reveal your fs2_open.log to us.

uh are you sure you need fs2_open to be copypasted? i tried to open it but it reads like a huge amount of nonsense. maybe i did something wrong?

I thought so too, but thing is, there's a couple of missions in which I'm supposed to kill Shivans, and I can only use the standard laser and they're just about invincible to it. I thought maybe that's just the game, you know, they get to be strong at the beginning, but then I got this interceptor missiles bug at the advanced training, so I figured it was a bug.
Presently I am at mission called "The Darkness and the Light", no new weapons of any kind available.

Yeah I know about OpenAl and OpenGl mate, i was just pointing out I was using OpenAl in case anyone asked

If that's the case, it really sounds like a corrupt pilot file. It happens. Creating a new pilot and starting over should do the trick. It sucks, yes, but there really isn't any other way.

And I was just pointing out that you use OpenGL. OpenAL is something you just install. Then it just is there. No more, no less.

Incidentally, since you are playing with a widescreen resolution, I do hope you've used a recent enough 3.6.10 build. 3.6.9 doesn't support non-4:3 resolutions all that well and you most certainly experience some graphical glitches, such as "wandering suns", with it.

Just to clarify:
if I create a new profile, access the game (with FSport mod activated), then go to the campaign room, select the Freespace main campaign and then start playing, and if after that I never use that profile to play any other campaign, then I should have no problems, right?

That clarified, can I clone my previous profile so I don't have to change the control options again, or do I necessarily have to create a new one from scratch? Thanks again for all the help

Yes. And stick with the "One pilot per mod" rule. It's easier.

If you've been using a 3.6.10 build, everything should be alright. With 3.6.9, you definitely would have noticed how the suns and other background elements move in a funny/scary way.

I went through the first few missions again and now it seems to be ok, avenger cannon shows up as it's meant to (pretty much easier to do the missions being actually able to do damage to the shivans )
thank you very much for your help, i wonder how could I have managed to corrupt the file tho, I'm pretty sure I didn't even try any other campaign or mod at all.

One thing you can do to avoid this in the future is back your pilot file up every few missions.  Just copy the pilot files to another directory.
