EVE Online Is Horrible
I've always hated EVE, but Yahtzee can explain why far better then I can.

Except, he really can't.

While he's usually quite apt at diagnosing the faults of FPS games (but fell down hard on BioShock), it shows quite clearly that he's rather inept at dealing with most other types here. He never had the right mindset to be playing EVE, or any MMO probably.

I've noticed a significant trend in that he can't quite seem to comprehend the concept of a sandbox game, or anything with a self-generated story. Perhaps it's a lack of imagination, or perhaps he's too used to having it spoonfed to him. I'd be curious to see how he would review a lot of strategy games, too, since even if they have a storyline progression of sorts, a lot of the story is self-generated because it never quite works out the same way twice, and deployment options and the like are very much entirely up to you. Similarly, I would bet and lay odds he might say the same of our own beloved FreeSpace, for while it does have a plot progression, the story that you create by how you fly and fight the missions is much more than the one you get from other sources, and being a space sim it offers much more freedom in that sense then most.

EVE is what you make of it. He didn't, and probably couldn't, see that.

EVE also achieves the impossible - making space fights boring.

the only problems i have with eve and trivial however can be important later in the game. playing too much eve is a bad sign that zombies are on this planet , i think this guy secretly enjoys the game just wants to keep his image. he doesnt have a clue what he is saying, however far be it from me to stop him.

This may come as a surprise but people are different.

I can make out the majority of stuff he says, but occasionally I miss something. Especially if I try to read all the stuff on the video at the same time.

Same here. He speaks so fast that I can just make out whatever he's saying. I didn't use the seek bar because I didn't like his speech. :drevil:

It's not that I think he's spewing rubbish; it's just that he has the talking speed of a chaingun.

I find his "Hate world, revenge soon, take it out on everyone..." attitude so darn cute. One of the reasons why I persistently watch his reviews even though I don't play games much. The following bit describes him quite well:

This week's review is Condemned 2. Last week's was No More Heroes, but I couldn't be arsed updating the site. **** you.

But this is just too creepy.

I love Yahtzee, but I agree with this.

Fortunately, he doesn't really need to be unbiased. He's there to amuse, not to provide useful criticism. Yahtzee is essentially a professional  troll.

Speaking of EVE, I've always wondered how the game works.  Does it work similarly to any games I've played? Wing Commander? Nexus the Jupiter incident? I've never played it before, but I've always been interested in it's amazing graphics.

It may look gorgeous, but it plays mostly like WoW.

its mostly autopilot and is the most heaviest user of gui of any game, it relies very much on gui. graphics of the game aside, the 1vs1 match up is nothing like wing commander, if anything all you do is watch and press f1 after lock on of the enemy ship and let the autopilot take over. and that basically what it is, autopilot gui and some graphics, their is no real feeling involved and you spend half or 3 quarters on your time talking to people to ignore how bored you can get flying over a few systems to trade goods...

Nexus is probably the closest parallel I can think of. It's a bit more involved tactically then Al likes to think, but like Nexus your options are mostly in what you decided to fit before the battle and the basic attritubes of your ship. Unlike Nexus, the ship changes, and your escorts, if you have them, have a mind of their own...which is mostly a bad thing, but sometimes not. :P

Although he does raise some good, undeniable points, many of the key things he is arguing around are purely subjective and depend on the people who play the game, as portrayed by the fact that he just persuaded me to want to play the game more than he made me want to avoid it.
