so i finnaly figured out how to use Quick VP and i get all excited about opening up and pokeing around tables when wouldent you know it im hit with this

you need to open  a tbl or extrack one ??
 for extraction use vpview is really easy and if it just open a .tbl use notepad or the tool comming whit vpview is tblview or some thing like that (i all was use notepad)

but if you like Quick VP use you fix

so new question. How the hell do i edit the tables >.> i just wana put some new ships into the inferno ships.tbl and i cant for the life of me figure it out :-(

If you want to add ships to tables you first need to open the table files with some program like notepad, notepad++, crimson edit, araneae or the likes. Then copy the entries you want to add to a new file named for example 'whatever-shp.tbm'. Add #Ship Classes to the beginning of that file, paste the ship entries you wanted, add #End to the end of the file. Then edit the ship entries so that the weapon, species etc. etc. data match the data of the mod you are using (like inferno). Save the new modular table file to the mod directory you are using.

ok so heres everything i did.
I used VP mage to open the root_fs2.vp file and extracted the ships.tbl from it. I selected the ships i wanted and created a new file to put them in. I put #Ship classes at the start of the file and #End at the end of it. I made sure that all the weapons were inferno weapons and then i saved it and used VP mage to put it into the inf_main.vp file. Nothing happend. So i tryed putting the new file that i had created in various places in the inf mod directory and still nothing. When i used VP mage to open the INF_Main.vp file again to see if there was anything wrong the table i put into it had no information in it. Am i doing something wrong? again. . . Sad panda

You never ever mess with VP's just to make minor changes, you make it a MOD just as Wanderer said. Learn that first then you worry about doing more complex things. Cause chances are if you screwed up you can put things in one at a time and TEST them taking out or redoing the one thing that's causing an error before repacking VP's just for one ship or weapon...

For the record the only tool I ever used was vpview to extract the base ships and weapon files to make changes, I never made a real VP...

i think its pretty obvious that i dont understand what im doing then lol is there a basic walk through that tells you how to make a really simple mod somewere? i really want to be able to change stuff and use my imagination
