yes that and the fact that 39 are friendly and 1 hostile and even on those conditions you get killed in the first attempt.

14 fighters and bombers, charging to destroy Diablo's forward beam . . . something red glows . . . all your wingmen disappears in a burst of red.

If your bomb gets shot down while you're near it, and you have a hole in your shields, though...

Even without a hole, being near an exploding Helios is a delicate business.  I've lost a dozen or two hull points even through my shields when flying a Perseus or the like.
