I've been using 3.6.10 builds for a short time. I had to change to 3.6.10 because I changed to 3.6.10 MVPs. I've been having so many errors including:

''####ed up deimos textures''

''no shivan thrusters''


Please give me as many fixes\solutions as possible. Thanks!

i dont get many bug errors on 3.6.10, always try using the latest release, look in the nightly builds, and if you get errors post them in the relevent place mantis  or elsewhere , but please say what build , what mod and what features your running then maybe we can help

I'd guess most, if not all, of those are MediaVP issues. Because the 3.6.10 MediaVPs are still Beta, as the name carefully suggests.

Options?
- Revert back to 3.6.8's.
- Scour the forums for the issues you have and try to find solutions.
- Wait until both the FSO engine and the MediaVPs evolve to an official 3.6.10 release status.

The problems (except the no_beam_charge one) are caused by the BUILD! I have tested it! If I change to 3.6.8 mvps nothing will happen!
As for the nightly builds, I am testing if it changes anything now...

Exactly what sort of "messed up Deimos textures" are you seeing?  I'm starting to get faint hopes that some of the goofiness I've seen in recent builds isn't limited to some issue on my end.

Not a build problem but media issue. Beams had a lot of fail in the Beta 3.6.10 mediaVP's, they will be fixed on the final 3.6.10 mediaVP's. For the most part, these issues are already fixed in the internal MediaVP set.

If the problems are on the Deimos' sides (window rows), I know what causes that... a model issue caused by extensive cleverness causes the windows on the sides to flicker when viewed from a distance. In short, there is/used to be an internal section in the model, behind the rows of windows, that was probably supposed to make it look like you could peer through the windows, but it never really worked as intended and caused flickering instead. This is fixed in the internal MediaVP set already, and will be in the 3.6.10 mediaVP release. The same too clever model is in the 3.6.8zeta VP's AFAIK, so it wouldn't change by using different VP's.

Dunno how the used build could correlate with flickering or no flickering, but perhaps the shader based lighting likes the model less than fixed rendering pipeline (which the 3.6.9 build uses).

Huh... don't remember this kind of error with Beta VP's. Are you saying that shivan ships don't have thrusters if

but they have thrusters if you play with 3.6.8zeta VP's and 3.6.9 release build?

It's strange if it only affects Shivan thrusters, and I would bet it's a media issue of some kind (missing textures or rogue tables) rather than code issue...

this was the fix ie wait for the vps to be validated


maybe its because english isnt your first language that you dont understand or manage to express your self in a manner that is correct and not misread as arrogant........


and by using the nightly builds and checking for updates in the mediavps you will have the maximum number of solutions think your self lucky you can still play my computer now refuses any fs variant

Also keep in mind that it doesn't help if we just offer you a pile of solutions or possible fixes. You'll have to try them yourself to see if one or more of them happened to solve your problems. At the moment it would seem that this thread isn't going anywhere and I'm therefore tempted to lock this. So, please try the solutions offered and answer any questions we've asked. By doing that you'll have a better chance of getting satisfactory gameplay with FreeSpace_Open.

ok, ok, I am sorry!!! I am honestly sorry for being arrogant and speaking like this!

Now, the nightly build fixed the thruster problem but everything else remained the same. As for the mvps, I have the latest version.

Once more: the latest MediaVPs are still Beta. "Beta" means "quite good but not absolutely, completely ready just yet". There are issues. Those issues will be fixed once the final version of the 3.6.10 MediaVPs is released. Until then you either have to live with the errors or search separate fixes for them. Most fixes for the MediaVP specific errors can be found from the 3.6.10 MediaVPs release thread.

I have all of the fixes.

I seem to have 2 main problems. The beam charge and the Deimos textures. The first one is caused by the MVPs and the latter by the build. I read once that the first one might be caused by a rouge table...

How exactly is the Deimos problematic? If it's about the flickering windows on the sides of the front section, then it's a model issue and already fixed in internal test VP's. If it's something else, please enlighten us, preferably with screenshots or at least with a better description...

Yep, it's the window problem on the model. You'll get the fixed model with the eventual 3.6.10 MediaVP release (not on the Beta, have patience).
