Anyway, I HATE TRANSPORTS AND FREIGHTERS!  I could deliver a container far more safely in a Herc with docking arms. In fact, the GTVA should replace its freighters with modified heavy assault fighters. A lot better than a Poseidon.

Yup, freighters are just scrap metal.  It's understandable how they get torn apart by capships, but you would think they would last a little longer against fighters and bombers.  (On another note, I bet if you armed a Satis freighter with flak it would do pretty well, especially in groups... ;7)

The transports are also pretty bad.  Only the Argo has sufficient hitpoints to make up for its lack of weapons and speed.  The rest are just there for target practice.

I got tricked into voting (seemed to miss this one)...

Anyway Jugs caus it's both a love hate thing. All the others are fine BUT I love Juggies when there on my side and despise them when they are the target!
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide target selection !

naaa, i disagree.

I personally think the Shivan "Dragon"s from FS1 (i don't know any of the FS2 ships) was the worst.  it was so fast, and so manueverable, and three of them were incredibly hard :)

I don't like the Destroyer because it isn't. It's a cruiser.

I HATE the ship system in FS, mainly because at first glance it doesn't make sense.

I agree here.. I also dont like it that there is no dedicated warship in FS all the large ships are Carriers... noone serves as a full fledged Battleship... just imagine the poweroutput you could get if you ditch the Hangars on an Orion and put a reactor completly dedicated to combat there instead...:D
Bah who needeed the Colossus when all we needed was 30 Fenrises

Exactly, there aren't really any 'combat' starships except for the corvettes. (A matter I intend to DRAMATICALLY rectify in The Swarm War.)

I agree. The FS ship system just doesn't seem right.

I'll compare FS ships to the Homeworld universe:

Freespace

Fighter/Bomber
Freighter/Transport
Non-combat Science Cruisers
Combat cruisers
Corvettes
Destroyers
Juggernauts

Homeworld

Fighter/Corvette (commonly refered to as "strike craft")
Resource collecting
Non-combat ships
Frigate
Destroyer
Cruiser (or Dreadnought)

Suggested FS

Fighter/Bomber
Freighter/Transport
Non-combat Science Vessels
Corvette
Destroyer
Cruiser

Just my two cents
Spoon - I stand in awe by your flawless fredding. Truely, never before have I witnessed such magnificant display of beamz.
Axem -  I don't know what I'll do with my life now. Maybe I'll become a Nun, or take up Macrame. But where ever I go... I will remember you!
Axem - Sorry to post again when I said I was leaving for good, but something was nagging me. I don't want to say it in a way that shames the campaign but I think we can all agree it is actually.. incomplete. It is missing... Voice Acting.
Quanto - I for one would love to lend my beautiful singing voice into this wholesome project.
Nuclear1 - I want a duet.
AndrewofDoom - Make it a trio!

The

The FS system makes sense and doesn't really compare to the HW system because of two big reasons.

1. The HW ships are on a completely different scale to the FS ship.
In HW a corvette is a larger warship class than a fighter or bomber.

2. HW ships follow a more traditional naval naming pattern.  While FS ships follow a more air force naming pattern.

A few definitions

Strike Craft
Strike: to engage in battle  Craft:a boat especially of small size
So a strike craft is a small vehicle designed to engage in battle

HW :Interceptor
FS :GTF Myrmidon

Corvette: a highly maneuverable armed escort ship that is smaller than a destroyer

HW: Heavy Corvette
FS: GTCv Deimos

Cruiser: a large fast moderately armored and gunned warship

HW: Heavy Cruier
FS: GTC Aeolus

Destroyer: one that destroys

HW: Destroyer
FS: GTD Orion

Juggernaut: object that crushes whatever is in its path

HW: None
FS: SJ Sathanas

So most ships fit their definitions, except the HC.  But naval cruisers have always been just a step down from Battleships in size and firepower.  FS destroyers are a logical design evoloution in that a carrier in the enviroment of FS doesn't really work as show by the fact that most of the so-called "carriers" fall between destroyer and juggernaut specifications, in terms of firepower and hull strength.

We KNOW the FS terminology is wrong. It's been argued to death. Leave it alone. :sigh:
