Yeah, no.
See, if DS9 were a bad show, you might actually have a point. But the fact of the matter is that it's widely considered a high-point in the franchise. It was dark, it was moody, and it was downright entertaining. So was Babylon 5, in fact. Why exactly are we complaining about two entertaining shows?
So feel free to give it another shot, with an open mind it's quite a good watch.
Or don't. I really don't care.
So, you're saying. If it's a bad show, it's a rip off? And if it's a good show, it's not a rip off? Wow. That's some crafty logic you got going on there. I don't see why anyone's surprised anyway, studios rip each other off all the time. How often do you see two movies about the same topic come out virtually in tandem? Though to be fair, as JMS says the ripping off was likely done by the corporate folks, not the people who actually care about the show in any concept other than its monetary value. So Berman and the other guys were just following orders, and thereafter the writers of both shows could diverge it a little bit.
But regardless. I've never watched DS9 the whole way through. I've heard some people say the seasons with the war were quite entertaining. It was on Spike for a while and I think I probably watched about most of the first season, but when EVERY SINGLE EPISODE starts off with Quark in his bar, I got fed up. I mean, it's a military space station. And most of the air time is some stupid bartender. And yeah I know he was popular at the time but not in my mind. Seriously it was like Sisko and his gang got less air time than some civilian guy with big ears. I don't get that. I saw a few episodes after that, most of which turned about to be season finales apparently, but I didn't really know what was going on.
Then, my two favourite characters, Bashir and the hot freckled chick get killed off or switched or something. I think Worf marries the girl but later on but she doesn't look like the same actress. As it stands the only Trek series I plan on picking up is TOS (one of the seasons I have already). I may see DS9 sometime, but I doubt it. Its very rare that I bother to switch on the TV, though I'm probably missing one or two worthwhile shows.
But anyway, the new movie looks sweet.
And back on topic further, I figured out who McCoy was and wasn't overly impressed with his 3 seconds of dialogue. Didn't strike me much as McCoy. But maybe he'll come across better in the movie.
