hold down '~' while typing 'www.freespace2.com', while in mission.

I think you just type it in without holding down tilde.

It's very easy once you've got the method down.

games by there very definition will have winners and loosers , and it can be anoying rerunninng the same mission 10 or 20 times but thats all part of the game , learning , changing our tactics and playing......

I use 'cheats' for testing missions (that I made myself).

Cheats ruin the game IMO.

But for FREDding related stuff, then that's fine but then you won't know about the balance of the mission.

Type www.freespace2.com while in game then use the "`" key (the one just below escape)

Holding that and K will destroy a ship.
Holding that and 9 or 0 will change your weapons
Holding that and I will give you invulnerability.

Actually, `k only does 100k damage to a ship or something. I recall the Sathanas taking more than just one `k to kill...or was that the SSJ Dante...whatever.

But it will destroy most ships in one press.

Barring what I said earlier, I noticed in the FS2 campaign that the only way to be promoted (throughout the campaign) from ensign to commander is by cheating.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can get promoted by getting the Sathanas kill (which is very easy to get - Order your wingmen to depart, lob a Helios at it, and then wait for the Colly to beam it to death.), the kill for the SCv Abraxis in Exodus and the kill for the SC Thanatos in the last mission.

Getting all three earns you 25k already.

Getting the Repulse, Vindicator, and Uhuru kills nabs you 1k each.
You get 800 for just lobbing a rockeye at the Belisarius.

If you just aim for capship kills, I believe its quite possible.

There's just something fun about firing beams from a fighter ... or flak, which is my personal favorite if I'm cheating.

Hornets work best for this imo, and enough of them can kill cruisers.

Try cheating the Shivan Super Lasers into your loadout. It's madness.

Cheats were originally supposed to help mission designers balance a mission, although if you've already played through the whole game without cheating, of if you just want to be God FRED, it also comes in handy.

~ + K does 100 000 hull damage. Both the Sathanas and Colossus require 10 times of ~ + K to be destroyed.

Using a Hercules with two SReds is also quite formidable. You can do huge amounts of damage and see what you're hitting.

In fact, if the ship you're flying has guns that are spaced far apart from each other, you can see what you hit even if you're firing a beam.
