As for Carl, well as far as i know about Shivan Biology, he'll hibernate for 32 years then comback with even bigger teeth. When he does DO NOT try talking to him for about a year.

Shivans are not morning-creatures. They don't like people trying to talk to them after they've just awakened. Last time someone did so, the shivans were so pissed off that they Nuked an entire star system just to tell us to leave them the f*** alone till they'd properly woken up.

Actually i dont know what they breath. The Hallfight scene never mentions the Shivan atmosphere, and there is no reference anywhere else to what type of atmosphere they breathe. They are known to be able to survive in the vacuum of space though

I'm not sure if they breath, but I'm pretty sure there was some sort of atmosphere in their ships. In hallfight, IIRC the marines had skin exposed, and I don't think they would be doing that in a vacuum.

In the FS1 script there was an idea for a cutscene (that sadly wasn't thrown in) that would have possibly had Shivans jumping from their ship and floating through space till they reached the Terran ship. Whether they were holding their breath or not is something I don't know. Maybe they didn't throw that in though because the Shivan actors couldn't hold their breath that long...

I'm willing to bet that they have some kind of self-contained tank built in for these kinds of materials. Biologically, it would need something to break down materials into energy, assuming that it's a cell-based creature.

Perhaps. Remember the freighter cutscene in FS1 and the little script about the Tombaugh Installation scene in the FSRefBible? Shivans are supposedly capable of living in any kind of environment.

Well, the only Shivan aims that are canon are to wipe us out. That generally means very little landing.
