I don't think there is one. None of the people that I know that are really smart play any kind of sport ever.

Sports help people relieve their internal anxt and therefore benefit their education.

That's the theory anyway.

Ehh... I think it's more like exercise makes you healthier and sports makes you more disciplined and whatnot, so you perform better academically.

In real life, you don't have time to sleep as much as you need to and you use your homework time to practice.

It forces them to manage their time better to fit in homework and whatnot. But that's pretty much it.

True. I'm half-cocked now because I only napped for one and a half hours last night.

I wish I were good at sports so I could blame my grades on my being a jock.

Huh. Maybe it's just because my school fails epically at every sport.

Sports are over rated . . .

or rather, I ****ed up my hand pretty bad, so sports are kinda hard for me now.

Excersice is good though, it helps you avoid strokes.

It helped mw get my PE GCSE :nervous:

Seriously though, you might benefit from look at it from a teamwork perspective, certainly when it comes to working as part of a group, those who achieve in sports are more skilled team players than those who are not.

Try something like the Belbin definition of work styles and you'll find that most Sportsy people often fall into the 'Team Player' or 'Motivator' type roles, whereas geeks are more in the area of Plants and Finishers.

i can understand not watching sports but to say that sports aren't fun to play takes a special kind of person.
then again maybe that's just my opinion because i live for about 5 sports. really. that, music and a few select people are the only things that i really give a damn about.

Re: quick, need facts about how sports factor into education!
Schools and parents often put way too much emphasis on sports instead of academics.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Like I said, I have trouble with most sports because I ****ed up my hand. Soccer (football) is still a possibility I guess.

Wow, you're going to be a drunkaholic in a few years.

Erh. I don't like watching sports that I play/have played. So ice hockey is awesome.

But I *suck* at the sports I have played/done... soccer, basketball, cheerleading, tae-kwon-do, competitive jump rope (maybe stretching the definition of 'sport,' but it's really ****ing hard), swimming, wrestling, gymnastics, dance (if gymnastics is a sport, ballet is a sport), baseball, and... yeah. Just about everything.

I probably suck at shotokan karate, too, but I am pretending not to notice at the moment.

But anyway... my grades are lowest when I am playing a sport. Correlation in this case is definitely not causation, though.

Oh, and I guess I lied before. My exgirlfriend is a straight-A nerdface (who is still mildly traumatized over getting a B on a report card in middle school) and she fences about a bajillion hours a week.

Hmm... Maybe there's a third factor! Sports, school, and social life. You can pick any two. Unless you're me. Then you don't pick any. Thwart the system!
