So... The Phantom Edit.
I picked up a copy of this quite a while back; for the uninitiated it's a re-edit of the pretty god-damn poor Phantom Menace by 'some dude'. The result is surprisingly tight, it has good pacing, no ****ty jokes (no, literally. Jar Jar does not step in the animal faecal matter) and Anakin's part is more akin to his size; short.

I can actually recommend it.

He's also given Episode 2 an unsucking too, I cannot vouch for it yet but I'm in the process of acquiring a copy.

Last but not least, if you want to see a surprisingly solid fan-film (in Italian albeit, get the subs) look up Dark Resurrection.

I've never been able to find it, myself.

Re: So... The Phantom Edit.
I just watched the edited version of Attack of the Clones. I'm almost speechless.

The editor has done a remarkable job. Gone is the needless meandering (for visual effect and nothing more) and most importantly, the really crappy romance. He actually managed to pull a believable love-affair out of the hat. I guess there are one or two minor inconsistencies in the film; Obi-wan lands on genosis with blasts on his fighter's hull but the editor cut out the dogfight through the meteors with Jango; the scene where Anakin jumps out of the speeder and onto the bounty-hunter's is gone so he reworked it to show both of them landing in the speeder and entering the bar only issue here is that Anakin seems to come from a strange direction and Obi-Wan hands him his lightsaber.

Ignoring that and accounting for the pretty clever edits I thought it was fantastic and genuinely impressed the hell out of me. I'm obviously not going to distribute the files myself or tell you where to get them on a public forum but I can say that I found torrents for both. :)

Re: So... The Phantom Edit.
Hmm, from a purely legal standpoint, if you already own the Phantom Menace, and this editor is giving away his cut of the movie free, I think it's actually OK to DL it. It's like FS. This cut is a SCP builde(free, public domain) while all the music, video and sounds that make up the movie are the files you need to buy from GoG.

I personally have no respect for the law and go out of my way to grotesquely violate ones that I disagree with at every opportunity, but if the (legal) hammer of justice should fall I would feel terrible if it fell on anyone else but me.
