(sigh)
I do find this reprehensible. I want this fact to be abundantly clear. Furthermore, TV in general has taken a steep dive in quality as of late- last semester, I basically didn't watch any TV in my dorm at all (nevermind that it happened to stop working about halfway thru).
Now.... I need to chose my next words with exceptional care; any forumgoer could sense that this thread is a flamefest waiting to happen, so...
(ahem)
There are some major problems in the world today. I'm not going to bother naming them, due in large part to the fact that said list of problems has those issues at different levels of priority for different individuals. That said, one problem in particular that is applicable to this situation is a general softening of human morality. I won't elaborate much, except to say that this ..."show" is a symptom of the problem rather than a cause. The cause is now indeterminate- especially with TV shows- the network tries a stupid show, people eat it up, the network tries something even more outrageous, people love that, and so on. Allow me to remind you that when you have a situation where people are being filmed (in this case, children) somebody has to be either doing the filming, or overseeing the operation. So in a rather indirect way, I'd wager that those kids had some form of supervision.
Whew... bit different from what I had in mind, but this should suffice.
