Re: Whatever happens in your life II: The Wrath of Khan
I'm always under the impression that few people give a hoot about English.

Well it's generally regarded as an easy, pushover subject anyway

EDIT: Ohh, and tedious!
Easy if you're a native English speaker?
Oh right...I forgot even my Senior class in '07 could barely read for **** and was unable to distinguish when to properly use two, too, and to, or their, there, and they're, etc...

Yeah, IF you're a native English Speaker. These words that mean the same thing and silent letters are a waste of time.

I'm a native speaker and I still find English a f'ing annoying language. :doubt:

Currently playing The Adventures of Sir Kicksalot Deathboot in the Land of the Conspicuously Placed Spike Racks.

Boystrous 19 year old temp at work slapped me in the face with an envelope and laughed it off as playful. So I shoved him over a desk and laughed it off as playful. It's on camera so I can plead reasonable force.  Temp is now passive.

I can't learn Spanish after six years yet have less trouble with English than just about everyone I know.

Re: Whatever happens in your life II: The Wrath of Khan
I always feel that Singaporeans can speak and write in every other dialect or language used in public except English. They can swear in Hokkien, converse in Chinese and listen to Malay, but when it comes to English, they mess it up so badly that it makes my borderline command of Chinese look like distinction.

Re: Whatever happens in your life II: The Wrath of Khan
I am reading the TV Tropes Wiki. Some highlights...

What's better than having a laser? How about 50 BAJILLION OF THEM?

Beam spam embodies the idea that quantity has a quality all its own. Rather than impressing the audience with just how powerful the Wave Motion Gun is, you instead impress them with insane amount of energy rays spewing out at the same target. The key word here is beam SPAM. Roboteching with inexplicably bending beam weapons is a frequent way of getting more lasers to fit on screen by allowing them to come out from more places than just the front of the vessel.

This is common in ship to ship space combat, but you'll also find this frequently in as a trope in shows with Hermetic Magic. You almost always see the barrage emanating from the sides and back of the character before Roboteching when Beam Spam is magical.

Compare Spam Attack (melee), More Dakka (Bullets), Macross Missile Massacre (Missiles). Contrast Wave Motion Gun, Kamehame Hadoken.

In the Descent: Freespace series, the AI ships (friendly or hostile) can target even in scrambled radar situations that make stuff "untargetable." This means that the AI ships can use their normal aspect-seeking missiles on targets that you wouldn't be able to do the same to. However, this can be exploited with the "Target my target's target" key. When you're in a mission where the enemy has some Applied Phlebotinum that prevents you from targeting them, you can select a friendly ship that's engaged with an "untargetable," press the "target my target's target" key, and viola! Start firing away those Interceptors. This is highly useful, for example, in the missions when you first encounter the Shivans, the Shivans being untargetable supposedly due to your ship's lack of information on Shivan electronics, or in the Silent Threat missions that feature the stealth Lokis.

    * This is a near useless ability, non-targetable ships are only in a couple of missions and usually do not require being shot. Freespace 2 also seems to eliminate this issue because most enemy fighters do seem to have trouble just identifying stealth fighters as targets unless they are severely harassed.

It is wryly noted that this is how Nanoha of Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha seems to make all of her friends, both Muggles and other mages. So much so that fans use the word "befriend" as a synonym for "beat the crap out of". Before anyone is deemed worthy of her affection, (s)he first has to miraculously survive one of her massively aggressive onslaughts, which Fate experiences first-hand.

    * As can be inferred from the above image, the current title of most befriended goes to Vivio, who took the title from Fate when she received five Starlight Breakers at the same time and managed to remain conscious and stand on her own afterwards. A considerable feat since Fate couldn't even claim that when Nanoha struck her with one. Nanoha officially adopts Vivio as her daughter afterwards.
    * That explains why she isn't as close to Chrono as to the rest of her friends. She never blew him up! HetOption Yuuno is around, but has less and less presence each season.
o It should be noted that in Triangle Heart 3 Sweet Songs Forever, Chrono does in fact get blown up by Nanoha, and becomes romantically involved with her afterwards.

This game includes examples of:

I worked on one of those entries. No, it wasn't the FS2 one. The Nanoha one. :P

Pity Vivio doesn't have a device catchphrase to adopt. :P
