TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Downloaded TBP 3.4b Final and installed it without a problem. When I use the launcher to launch it I received 3 errors:
Error: The required OpenGL extension '~p' is not supported by...

File:D:\C++\Freespace\fs2_open 3.6.9 - BtRL\code\graphics\gropenglextension.cpp
Line: 392

-
Error: The required OpenGL extension '8p' is not supported by...
-
Error: The required OpenGL extension 'Ø p' is not supported by...
-
After I press OK three times the game actually starts BUT after the intro movie it's all messed up. I have two blacks bars (bottom and top) and this flickery red box (middle), mouse cursor isn't showing. When I blindly try to navigate to the ready room to start a mission I receive error messages that a lot of .anim files are missing.

I have updated my graphics drivers, I've tried OpenGL/Direct3D8 and a lot of other option combinations and nothing seems to do anything. And that directory D:\C++ doesn't even exist.
Using Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium (all updated), DirectX 10.0, Nvidia GF 8600M GS 179,48, AMD TL-60 (It's an Aspire 7520G laptop).

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
That directory reference has got nothing to do with your computer, but with the computer that built the executable.
Now, could you select a debug executable in the Launcher (should be named fs2_open_3_6_9d.exe), run it (you will get a ****load of error messages, click through them), and then post the log file (<your TBP directory>\data\fs2open.log) here, using

tags?

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Select the fs2_open_3_6_9_debug file in the launcher and clicked run. Received one error then Vista decided it stopped responding.

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Hmmm....It should work...At least I don't see anything wrong with it (except for the missing OGL extensions)....
Let's try this. Go here, and download the regular and Inferno builds for Windows, then use one of them. If it crashes again, run debug build and post the log. One problem with the old 3.6.9 builds is that they don't generate md5 hashes for the vp files, making it harder to tell if they are corrupted (they shouldn't be, but one never knows).

If the you get the same error again, you could go here download and run the OpenGL extensions viewer, and tell us what it says.

Problem is with GL extension that it cannot find?

Yeah, which is weird, because your card should be capable of doing whatever FS2 requires...

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
I know. So if it cannot find the bloody extensions can I like "manually find them for the stupid launcher"? Or disable some thingymajiggies so it won't even try to find them?

I installed this from a new download after updating my GFX card drivers than the previous so I doubt that the files would be corrupted.

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Sadly, No. Which is why I recommend getting the OpenGl Extensions Viewer. Running that could tell you what's going wrong, and also give you the opportunity to fix it. Right now, I'm assuming that there's something wrong with your driver.

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Yeah, pretty much. Which, again, leaves me scratching my Head. There is something interfering with the driver and OGL here, but I can't tell you what it is. someone wiser than me will have to tell you what, and how to fix it, though.

EDIT: Waaaaaitaminit. Are you using the latest driver provided by Acer, and if so, how recent is it, and can you use the latest nVidia driver?

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
When I first tried TBP I was using Acer's driver. Which was 7.15.11.154. Then I installed the notebook driver, and downloaded TBP again if the earlier one was corrupted, for my card from Nvidia's site. Which is 7.15.11.7948 and that is the latest.

Also updated DirectX and restarted lappy but still nada.

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
hm
I'd set my money on bad driver too. Still...

Check the launcher's settings.
1.) always browse to the correct build you want to use at the moment
2.) never forget to press apply

Check the Video settings and the Features tab. You might play around with those settings, for example change the driver. Have some patience until FUBAR or some of the other code geniuses arrives, one of them should be able to solve it.

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
I'm just confused as to how can the driver be bad if it's the latest one available and all the other games I play work fine without problems.

Yes I'm 100% sure that I've selected the correct build and have always spammed the apply button. And I have played with the video and features settings till my heart content and had enough. Doesn't work.

Also tried the Wing Commander Saga Prologue thingy and it's the same problem and errors. So most likely driver related but still confused how it could be the driver when everything else works fine.

ive had this problem with a windows install , but llets hope that  it doesnt go down the same root......

try a forceware driver for your note book , have a look here but before you install completely uninstall the old driver and carefully follow instructions on the site

good luck and if you need any extra help there are usually a few ppl in irc

Re: TBP 3.4b Final launch OpenGL error
Sorry I read it yesterday and didn't see anything that wasn't already pointed out.   One thing you might try is totally uninstalling the video drivers and then reinstalling.  Normally that only happens if you change video cards though.

Direct3d although an option in the launcher isn't supported.  So it is possible that your drivers are corrupt or even a hardware issue with just OpenGL (it's happened to someone before) even if other stuff is working properly.

How many of your games use OpenGL though? Most Windows games are Direct 3D based.

Why develop a graphics engine that uses OpenGL when most of the platforms it would be used are more or less designed for D3D?  :doubt:

OpenGL is cross platform.  Direct3d is mickysoft only.
