Abstinence is something one needs to come to terms with rather than it being forced down our necks.

But 99% of the population WILL act on the impulses programmed into them, that's why the Church is so hot on abstinence, nothing fills the confession boxes like an unachievable goal.

Besides, it could be that they simply have less hormones to start with and the belief they have more control is just that.

On the other hand, if you are responsible enough not to get pregnant when you don't want to or get a disease, you shouldn't *have* to control your hormones so much. If you want to have sex, go find someone who also wants to have sex. If you regret it later, that's unfortunate. But people regret a lot of things, so no biggie.
