Back sort-of on topic... I never bought freespace 2. I only started playing it because I could download it from here.
I bought Freespace 1&silent threat in one package long long time ago but it absolutely refused to be played on all computers I tried it on.

it is believed that everyone should have a copy of the game , but if i understand you have freespace 1 and silent threat...... so all you need o do is go to gog and download (and pay a few dollars ) for fs2....

Because we prefer that people buy their FreeSpace legitimately. FYI, gog.com offers it for 5.99$.

The engine is. The artwork (i.e. Models, missions, music, maps, effects, interface art) is still property of Interplay.

Freespace Open is of the first type, in that anyone can modify it and use it for their own (non-commercial) products. The source code for the engine was released, but the assets and the IP still belong to Interplay.

Eh well, I don't really feel guilty.
I bought '2' of their games already and only became a fan recently because I could download it from here. Should they ever decide to make freespace 3 i'll be one of the first to buy it from the stores.
Don't really feel like buying a game online from some store either. I'll only get a digital copy of a game I already have on my harddrive. I'm a fan of having a good solid disk with a nice manual in a box in my hands. It's not that I want to be a cheap pirate, just that I actually want to get something for my money.

Yeah, that is a more extreme example. Doesn't change the fact that getting the game for free and then complaining about errors is seriously frowned upon.

I know you probably don't intend it as such but now you are making it sound as if i'm doing the complaining part as well.

I just donated a few bucks to these forums, because of the awesome work you people have done and for the help with modding and such. I feel this is a better way to spend my money then to support some online store by buying a product I already have. And i'm certainly not buying it because someone on the internet thinks its the legal right way to do. Sorry.

I apologize for that. But saying that you have a pirated version of the game is one of this forum's berserk buttons. The reason there hasn't been a FS3, or any similar space sim for several years now was partly due to the fact that FS2 didn't sell. Now that there is an opportunity for some wallet-voting, we (or at least, I) prefer that people do so.
