Um, an illusion of having weapons of mass destruction would NOT be a defence! The only reason the last war ended was because Allied forces massacred Iraqi forces and Mr Bush was afraid of scenes like the Highway of Death.

If he didnt posses NBC weapons, he'd let the inspectors in and have the sanctions lifted, truth is, he does have them.

Iran, well they are involved in Afganistan, trying to influence the government their. Iran are giving the police forces in Afganistan Iranian made HK clones(brand new), jeeps etc and their is a deeper meaning to this Axis of Evil(classified information most likey). Truth is they know more than us.

Is it right to use what is, in effect, evil measures to destroy evil?  Does the end justify the means - especially if the means is a possible nuclear strike - if there are still other measures that can be taken?

I mean, look at the terrorists in Cuba.  I know there is no real doubt they are evil and guilty, and deserve to die, but the US - and civillised world - has a justice system based on Innocent until proven Guilty.  When that's broken, surely you risk becoming just as bad as the enemy?

The other thing is that Afghanistan has still to be rebuilt.  Personally, I think one of the major missions must be to rebuild that country from scratch, above and beyond what the bombing destroyed, to help gain support from the Muslim world.

Possbily we should be looking at ways to reduce the risk of NBC weapons being used, rather than antagonises an unstable dictator who has already used them against his own people.  Even if it's only temporary - to creat a window of opportunity - it;s got to be better than the slaughter of innocents, and those who don't have a choice but to fight.

EDIT - it's difficult to criticise Bush's policy without sounding like defending the likes of Iraq and Iran, but I'm trying to make a valid point

Nukes will never be used against Iraq. Most likey course of action would be air strikes and a full ground invasion. Iraq should of been dealt with a decade ago, people in Iraq thought they'd get support from the US in their civil war, but Bush ran away because he was more worried about votes than what was the right thing to do. The sooner Saddamn is gone, the better.

If a prominent member of the Cabinet calling anyone who speaks out against said arrests or Bush's policies in general "terrorists" in a publicly-aired speech, yeah. On second thought, he's no McCarthy. He's a budding dicator.

I think that the older Bush made a pretty big mistake by not attempting to take Baghdad completely and capture Hussein back in 1991. They had a good opporunity at that time which they should have taken advantage of.

Do you all think Bush will be elected again in 2004? Public opinion is currently favorable to him (since he was in power during the 9/11 period), but it is going down quite fast.

Don't be an ass. Although I do hate Texas. It's the ugly, nasty modernized version of Oklahoma, and what I fear Oklahoma might be someday. There are some nice people from Texas, but, well remember, Bush was just governor there. They execute more people there than any other state.

So long as people fail to take him seriously, he'll remain in power. We're used to having jokes in office. look at the last few- [edit: low blow]. It's already happened, and the worst is to come.
