It may not be a relevant question to some people, but I certainly wouldn't class it as inappropriate.

Agree with Battuta, losing a member of the family is equally painful, there is a saying that no parent should outlive their child, but that doesn't mean that losing a parent is less painful, you have a lifetime of memories, in some ways that helps, in others, it makes it that much more difficult to deal with.

You miss what 'was', Mobius and his partner have to wonder what 'could have been', I know I did for years. Neither is, I think, less painful than the other.
