I also love spaceplanes... but the shuttle is... a streamlined brick with double-delta wings.

I really wish NASA would have went with something like the X-24 lifting body as the planform for the production shuttle. The current Rockwell STS is a perfect example of balancing available technology (at the time) and production cost/methods. The result of course is not the best solution, but satisfies the bureaucrats. Much like that accursed F-22...
