More proof that PETA need to shut up
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090618/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_dead_fly

Quote
The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants the flyswatter in chief to try taking a more humane attitude the next time he's bedeviled by a fly in the White House.

PETA is sending President Barack Obama a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, a device that allows users to trap a house fly and then release it outside.

"We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals," PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich said Wednesday. "We believe that people, where they can be compassionate, should be, for all animals."

I have lots of respect for real anti-animal cruelty groups but PETA really do need to shut the **** up if this is the kind of crap they come up with.

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
I usually try to extradite bugs and spiders etc. out of the house unharmed, but that's my personal choice. I wouldn't really go around telling people off for squishing a few flies or something. :)

I don't like to kill bugs, but they sneak up on me and I react without thinking. D:

(this is iamzack, obviously, as Turambar and his family regularly slaughter animals for fun)

Yes, PETA, eradicating a disease-carrier that is non-sentient in every sense of the word is a crime worse than murder.

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
I don't like killing small creatures like bugs and flys, no matter how icky they are.
I leave that to my cat. She don't like "intruders" in "her" territory, they all end up as small snack. I guess that's the natural order, and my conscience is unstressed. :P

The only small bug i wouldn't mind if it would dissapear forever from the face of the earth are ticks.
I hate those frakkers.

PETA exaggerated a bit here, that's somewhat to say it as polite as possible, stupid.

I used to feed ants with flies...

I liked having anthills under my control when I was little. :nervous:

Re: More proof that PETA need to shut up
If it's a bee/spider/moth/beetle/snail (I get these on my driveway sometimes)/other little pretty harmless/usefull creature, I generally catch it and throw out of the house (driveway).

For everything else, I have my airsoft gun, an M4 replica with a reflex sight.

If it's a spider or bee or something I'll put it outside or whatever. Mosquitos and black flies are dead once they enter engagement range.

PETA needs to get a head-check.

I will never suffer a White Hornet to live.  Those things are just plain nasty.  Anything else usually gets a pardon.  Unless it bites me, then its dead.

EDIT:  Oh, and these things too.  I hate these bugs.

Even if not, he has a lot of armed body guards and, if necessary the entire army of the U.S. to shoot those flys out of his kitchen. :P

Isn't that a firefly? They're nice and fragile, why would you hate them?

I passed near a handful of them a few hours ago (bicycle time). They're not annoying...

That's a Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle, native to Japan. They've been wreaking havoc on spruce and pine forests, especially in Nova Scotia.

:wtf:  I looked it up in order to post it here, and that is a Soldier Beetle.

And yes, that thing is related to the firefly, but it doesn't light up.  Those things bite.
