Hi

I'm not sure if this has already been answered (i cant find a way to search through the threads :/ ) but i'll ask again anyway   Is there a way to get ships from FS1 in FRED2 (or a link to a mods site maybe), such as the original 'Apollo', 'Athena' and 'Valkyrie' and others?

Yes. It's called the FSPort. Just make a shortcut to FRED, and add "-mod FSPort" to the target field.

If you want just those ships, you're going to have to extract the models, textures and table entries from the FSPort vps, and make new table entries (or rather, modular tables) that you can put into your own mod.

Another suggestion: Why don't you join us in the IRC channel? Quick questions like these can be answered there just as efficiently.

Also ,if you would like to use FS1 ships and weapons with FS2 ones, I made a mod that allows it.

It's in four parts, as nobody on FSMods put full version on the website jet, but it's tested and should work.

FSPort does the first, FS1toFS2 does the second.
FSPort also allows you to use full FS1 interface and HUD.
FS1toFS2 only add FS1 ships.

All I want to do is have the ship models from FS1, i'm not bothered about anything more than that.

The main difference between FS1toFS2 and FSPort is that the first preserves FS2 ships (allowing you for example to fight Apollo in Herc II) and FSPort does not.

Ok so i have unpacked the files into a folder named 'mods' in my main FS2 directory. Do i now just add "-mod mod" to the target line in FRED2_open?

Separate mod folder names with commas. As in "-mod fsport,mediavps,awesomesauce" and so on.

If you have a dedicated IRC client installed clicking the link on top of the page should work.  If you don't have one, and don't want to install one, click this link, select a nickname, and you are in. As for multiple mods, that is definitely possible.
To do it in FRED, change the -mod line to "-mod mod1,mod2" (Replacing mod1 and mod2 with the appropriate names, of course). So, for example, to use your the FS1 ships with the mediavps, it would look like this: "-mod mods,mediavps" (You should really use a better name than "mods"....).

To get this to work with FreeSpace, copy this text:

into a new text file, and save it as "mod.ini" in your mod folder.

ok the ships work in FRED2 now but they wont work in FS2. I have copied what u said into a txt file named 'mods.ini' and saved it in the fold er named 'mods' that contain the FS1 ships vps, and i have set the target for my shortcuts to FRED2_open 3_6_10 and FS2_open 3_6_10 to "-mod mods" ('mods' being the folder containing the new vps and txt file) but when i start my test mission containing myself 'alpha 1', and 4 apollo ships, 'beta wing', it loads the mission fine, with myself and 4 Ulysses, not Apollos. Any ideas?

The file needs to be called "mod.ini", not "mods.ini" and under no circumstances should it be called "mod.ini.txt" or something like that.
And don't use shortcuts to the FSO exe. Use the Launcher. That's what it's there for. Select your mod in the mod tab, and watch it go.

Does the 'Mod' you need to select in the launcher need to just be the name of the folder containing the new VPs and .ini config file? Because i have done this and it still isn't loading the new ships in game.

1. Just select fs2_open_3_6_10.exe.
2. Open the "Features" tab.
3. Enter "-mod Mods" without quotations to the "Custom flags" field. If you want to use other mod folders, add them too and separate the mod folder names with commas. As in "-mod Mods,MediaVPs".
4. Click Apply.
5. Run.

It's worth noting that a lot of ships changed their stats between FS1 and FS2.  The Loki, Horus, and Demon are three that come to mind.
