Re: HOLY BACON! : Missions Which Blew Your Mind (Or Blew You Apart)
Yeah, that happened to me too.

Now I just park myself at the node when the mission starts, and let my wingmen do everything else.

Doesn't work for me; I usually lose all or almost all of my wingmen in Clash of the Titans II. I also run into extreme difficulties when the two Cains and the Dragons come in, thanks to lack of wingmen. (The Vasudan Theta wing gets pulverized by the Dragons half the time, too, meaning it takes me 3 or 4 tries to pass Apocalypse every time I get to it.) I must be doing something wrong.

Try to stay near the Lemnos when the Dragons arrive.  The AAA cover will help you out.

When I replayed that mission on Medium, I think I died a time or two in earlier attempts, but it was never from the supernova. When I did get it (I think it was the second try), all hostiles were knocked out a few seconds before the supernova began. I was actually behind one of the Leviathans, so I was a good deal from the node. Just cranked all power to engines and let the burner rip. Did I mention I was flying the Herc 2?  :)

On the first-time play, it is impossible to reach to the node before the supernova starts unless you fly Interceptors, a Myrmidon or perhaps a Herc II.
Don't use the Ares if you plan to not be the selfless hero of Ending V2.  :p

Bullshat. .

I was in a herc mk2 on my first playthrough back in 99. And I made it through, I was sticking to that corvette like a rash though as it was on medium.

Ah yes. Normally I would remain far from the jump node after destroying the Rakshasha near the 4th convoy that Command exhorts you to save from Seraphim bombers.

I have never had a problem making it to the node before the nova hits.  Then again, I play on Very Easy all the time, so I don't take that long with the bad guys.

I always take an Ares because da red onez go fasta! I like the huge payloads.

Hey! I play on Very Easy too!

Apocalypse did teach me the hard way that increased speed CAN make a difference.

Mission that blew me up - The first mission of Aeos affair, i still get my ass handed to me on a regular basis and its a campaign I play often
Mission that blew my mind - most of BP AoA, having just played it for the first time i'm now going to replay it to get a grip on the storyline

Re: HOLY BACON! : Missions Which Blew Your Mind (Or Blew You Apart)
Does it make a difference in gameplay (i.e. aside from the Petrarch ending videos) whether you beat the supernova or not? The game doesn't advance the campaign to "This campaign is over. To replay, create another pilot or click Restart Campaign" (not exact wording).

The cutscene is slightly different if you survive, vs if you don't.

AFAIK you don't actually have to protect the freighters at all, just stay alive and be near the Jump Node.

Disable, disarm, ignore target (otherwise the Lemnos beams them down).

I didn't find that mission too irritating on Insane, except for the Dragons. Had to orbit the Lemnos for a while.

Well, that much I knew. I meant if getting killed was equivalent to failing the mission. What confuses me is the campaign's refusal to advance to the "campaign over" stage. Do you get points and kills for anything you accomplish during the mission? And does your survival or death affect that?

Aeos Affair, I admit I had to play it on very easy, but it really was a blast, and it was the first time I was able to use Helios bombs on the Myrmidon.
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

FUN:

Playing Judas
Good Luck
Apocalypse
Aftermath of Vasuda Prime (escorting the Transports)
The mission in Inferno where you're trying to reclaim the Sol jump gate
Forced Entry

HATE:

The last mission of Deus Ex (Damn it, Goob, why?)
The last mission of ST. Silent Threat
Apocalypse (So many times I was just 500m from the node. Or jumping when the wave hit me.)
Training missions.
You get one chocolate chip.
