Re: PC Game Recommendations
I'm hearing this. I'm really relieved. A few of the reviews have pointed at things I was really worried about (i.e. horribly clumsy dialogue writing), but the overall positive reviews are nudging me towards trying it out, and apparently the actors are pretty good.

As it turns out the dialogue's probably some of the strongest BioWare has written - the inter-party banter is particularly snappy. And yeah, at times the acting is really quite impressive for a video game. Claudia Black's delivery is a highlight.

At this point it's safe to say the woeful marketing was nothing but a sales gamble.

Re: PC Game Recommendations
On the subject of free games - whilst not *full* releases - the new Left 4 Dead 2 demo is out on Steam for the PC, as is the demo of Gratuitous Space Battles (http://www.positech.co.uk/gratuitousspacebattles/). I'd advice caution with the second one however as it crashed my system when I tried to quit out of it (though it ran just fine up till that point).

Re: PC Game Recommendations
The only downside is that the licence still costs $30 USD.
I got it for $20 off amazon.

$5 on sale from Direct2Drive . Booyah!  :D

And yes, Mount & Blade is good. It's rough around quite a few edges, but where it's good, it's VERY good. It's word-of-mouth reputation is well deserved, and playing the demo should give you enough of a taste so see what's up with it. And it's very moddable: the modding community reminds me of how Freespace's looked in the early years (lots of mod-spam, a good number of great ideas in half-implemented form, and a handful of solid, professional total conversions). It's eaten my gaming life the last few weeks. Be sure to get the battlesizer mod for more epic combat.

I also recommend the mods I mentioned earlier, if you have played the games they're built on. TNM in particular is better than almost all of the commercial games I've played in the last few years. A few design decisions are questionable, but the sheer amount of content and level of polish in it is something for the FS community to aspire to.

Re: PC Game Recommendations
Meh. I'm Dark Brotherhood Black Hand, Champion of Cyrodill, Knights of Nine Grandmaster(forgot the actual rank), ArchMage of the Mages Guild, Grey Fox, Master of the Fighter's Guild, Brother of the Order of the Virtuous Blood ... blah blah blah, you get the idea.

I finished the game, and am now attempting to find every location on my map. I finished mapping out North Cyrodill. I hope. Flying dragon back makes things easier, but not by much.

Re: PC Game Recommendations
Technically they don't.  Not in the "creature" sense.  Akatosh is a dragon when on the material plane, but that's about it.

Re: PC Game Recommendations
Maybe I should mentioned that it's a mod, my good Colonol. A dragon, well, really a drake, riding mod. It's based off the Akatosh model, and the modder did it quite smoothly. And there are several versions, and mine just happens to be a Frost Drake. It's faster than Shadowmere by a fair bit, and it ... well, flies, so you can avoid insignificant things like trees and hills. And it has a breathe attack, and is summoned, with an Alteration spell.

Link if you want it.

Borderlands is well worth the money if you have the buddies that play coop.

I will ask that you explain yourself. Please do so with the clear understanding that I may decide I am angry enough to destroy all of you and raze this sickening mausoleum of fraud down to the naked rock it stands on.
