Back when I did the forum reorganization, I left it "Fan Fiction and Art" in the off-topic section because I didn't know what to do with it.  But it's certainly not off-topic; nearly all of the stuff in there is FreeSpace related.  So it's now in the FreeSpace section.

I hope all the artists don't mind the imminent invasion of newbies into their formerly obscure hiding place.

erm, I mean wont this deter people from posting non-FS stuff in the Art section? I doubt we'll see another Titan's art thread or Roadsign comic popping up if Art is in the FreeSpace section.

The admins reserve the right to act on their own, not in response to any user's or users' opinion(s); but we do like to take them into account.  Hence why I started this thread (both as a notification and as a discussion).

The subforum has more FreeSpace-related art than non-FreeSpace-related art, n'est-ce pas?  I figured the weight of content should determine what subforum it's under.

Also, I wanted to give it a more prominent place than directly under General Discussion, since IMHO it's more important.  However, the FreeSpace section is pretty big already, so perhaps there's a tradeoff.

I'd be interested to hear more users' opinions.  I'm not dead-set on keeping it in the FreeSpace section.

I understand the sentiment but I do think that the FreeSpace section is so large that putting it there actually makes it less prominent, yes...

Perhaps newbies who don't know that the FanFic used to be under in the Off-topic board. I don't think it would discourage Titan or other regular members from posting their stuff.

I'd rephrase the board's description to make it explicit that both FS and non-FS stuff are welcome. The current description does imply non-FS stuff is okay, but it's better to be explicit about it if people think it would discourage users.

This is a tough subject, because there isn't enough art attention to merit both a non-FS art board and an FS-only art thread. Anyway, I'm personally kind of opposed to this move. Right now the board description doesn't seem to negate the fact that it's in the "Freespace" section, where it is quite clear that only Freespace material is posted. I really think this will gradually start to choke off Art attention unless the allowance of non-FS art is made a little bit more explicit in the board description.

Yeah, I do feel like it worked better below GenDisc, if for no other reason than the fact that the FreeSpace section is already rather hefty as-is.  Even though its old position was at the bottom, I feel like it was able to stand out more.
