Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Nice! This was one of the few NFS that I really enjoyed playing :)

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Holy ****, you mean they finally pulled their heads out of their asses and realized that I play racing games to drive cars that I cannot and likely never will be able to afford, instead of chromed ****boxes?  Hell yes!  I was wondering if there'd be a post-millenium NFS game worth playing.

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
I hope the PC won't be in the typical boat of suck, but looking at all the console releases of modern videogames, no choice but to suck it up. I'm also irritated by the fact that they're reusing the name instead of simply naming it "Hot Pursuit 3" or another title that would at least show that two previous titles existed (but hey, maybe there IS no choice, I don't know). To me it's as though that era is "best forgotten to them" when yet that's the era they're going back to by listening to the fans (I do hope that's true).

Wouldn't it just split the fan base even worse from the current NFS1-5/maybe 6 era and the NFS7+ era split in thinking?

A quiet nitpick on my part, again, no choice but to live with it. :sigh:

No qualms with going back to exotics and other high-end cars, but instead of saying that "ricers suck" and etc, I just take it as either "their idea of tuning is incorrect" (I won't explicitly say the word wrong per se) and/or "some of the later games and/or movies did not really show the concept of tuning properly". Ironic that all cars regardless of origin got the same treatment though...

To me anyway, that is...

They have done that a couple of times already, with varying degrees of success. NFS Most Wanted was in the style of the original NFS3 with the cop chases, but with more gameplay depth and an open world. It was easily the high point of the series in the last 7 or 8 years.

This new HP game could be good too though, especially as it's being made by the Burnout developers.

After The Fast and the Furious came out, 90% of the new cars available for NFS4 made by the community were chromed ****boxes so I think EA decided to go with what seemed to be popular. Some of the "tuned" cars for NFS2 make anything in the Underground/Carbon series look tasteful.

I just found out what "Nostalgia" means :D.

by the way, I hope that they have cockpits/dashboards like the original (NFS6 was already lacking at this point, although I really loved all the tracks and etc.)

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
I liked underground 2 a lot.
that and HP2 are IMO the best pair

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Well, see, I was never a big fan of the switch to the street racing scene, but I never really thought the series went downhill, either. Sure, they abandoned the 200+, multi-million dollar game of tag that the series was known for, but I genuinely enjoyed the racing in the later games like Underground 2 and Carbon, and I loved the ability to customize your car. The games grew on me. That said, I'm super excited for Hot Pursuit to be back.

I hope they include a story mode. I don't hope they include a story, or at the very least I hope they lave out the cutscenes. I just beat Carbon, and by then I was tired of having my game interrupted to watch people wearing too much eyeliner try to exposite a poor story that the writers themselves didn't seem to know what to do with.

On reflection, some sort of story would be nice though, if only to keep you playing forward.

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
*Is reminded of the R34 in the Japanese NFS4 for some reason*

:nervous:

Pity upgrading was only in career mode though, but well.

My personal favorite is still NFS:HS (also known as NFS 4 or Road Challenge :)). Of course, that was the first one I've ever played, but I love it to this day. Especially the soundtrack :)

I actually think the street racing setting is more appropriate whenever the cops are included, although not all NFS games have had those. However, the biggest improvement in the series was the move to an open world in Most Wanted, which made the cop chases fairly unique among racing games. The cops weren't just an obstacle in standard circuit races anymore, but your main objectives were now based around them. I hope they keep the open world in this upcoming game.

If the story and cutscenes in those games were anything like the MW ones, I want to see more of that. Those were squarely in the "so bad it's good" category and certainly did provide an incentive to keep playing. :D

In recent times, every other NFS game has been in the street racing/cops style, while the others have been conventional, semi-sim games like NFS Shift. NFS essentially consists of two different series these days.

I don't think that'll be the case. Upon rewatching the video, it looks like they're remaking Hot Pursuit 2

Sorry but did they just show a Lambo as the "top cop car" over the Veyron?

I sure hope they get it right in-game. Can't see the Lambo really holding a candle to the Veyron IRL.

Re: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Power isn't everything Kal.  That 1000hp W16 engine is heavy and can take a bite out of the Veyron's cornering ability.  No question, it will get up to speed again, pretty quickly after straightening out, but 253mph isn't much more than theory on any stretch of road that doesn't have a four-mile straightaway to roar down.

I will grant, however, in the trailer, they show the Lambo roaring past the Veyron on a long, straight stretch, where that kind of thing is least likely to happen.  (Frankly, I'd be surprised if the helicopter could keep up with any of the cars at that point.)

Of course, the Lambo gets bonus points for actually being used as a police car.  You don't try to dodge that ticket.
