I don't get this "cat person" and "dog person" business. I own a dog but like cats all the same, even if my dog doesn't In my book you either like animals or you don't. The human need to label and sort ourselves to categories never fails, it would seem.
I mean sure, some might prefer to own a dog or a cat. But I don't get the animosity of one group towards the other. Sure dogs and cats don't like each other but shouldn't we be a bit more grown up then that? I see cat owners who hate dogs and vice-versa and it never fails to amaze me. Guess it's a similar mentality to being a football fan. "My home team is best the rest is rubbish and I hate it" sort of thing, perhaps.

i disagree. cats pretty much domesticated themselves. cats were attracted to the higher concentrations of rodents, bugs, birds in agricultural communities. they reduced the number of vermin greatly, which led to less disease, and less grain loss, which allowed humans to make more beer. humans saw that cats were quite useful so allowed wild cats to stay in their communities. some made friends with the farmers. then humans, in their infinite stupidity decided to start feeding the cats, and give them shelter and clean litter boxes, so the cats no longer needed to hunt.  people crammed into the cities and took their cats with them. of course this led to cats become mere idle pets, rather than the hunter/killers they are, which is sad really. cats are still useful in situations where you need effective pest control. they evin kill/eat common household pests like roaches and mice too, so they are useful.

both my cats come when you call them by name. but for me the male cat warmed up to me faster. the female took awhile longer to get used to me, but lately shes been an affection whore. they are both awesome lap cats. the male is a little bit smarter, theres not a door or cabinet in the house he cant get open (that includes the refrigerator) .

Yep, they can open cabinets, we have a few that can do that. Cats also bring us critters, and leave them on the floor, I guess they think we`ll eat them.

In the suburbs of America the indoor/outdoor variety never lost their hunting abilities. I remember all the gifts our cat used to leave us. Shrews, small birds, mice, rats, one time she left the headless, legless torso of what appeared to be a rabbit (her paws were all covered with blood, such a mess really), and of course those were the ones she didn't eat herself.

when i lived in anchorage i had this tabby who used to catch birds and then eat them on the porch. she ate everything but the feathers. i know she got worms a couple times because of it. of course mr cuddles has only brought home one kill, a small shrew. he also brought home a small bird once, but he didnt do any damage to it what so ever. i took it away and let it go. it flew away without any problems.

im a cat person but i dont hate dogs at all. if a dog comes up to me and acts all friendly, il probibly scratch it behind the ears. my grandma's chihuahua was a little bit to hyper for my tastes, but that didnt stop me from playing with him. i might not hate dog people but i don't really like people who hate cats.
