Re: It was a hoax. No need to worry. (previously GOG.com Closing)
What appalls me about this entire situation now is why GOG.com chose to do it this way.  When I saw the first message on the GOG website, I was led to believe that GOG.com was going to be gone for good.  Then, a few days later, we find out that the site was took down momentarily because they were, in reality, going out of beta and re-launching.

This is a bad marketing stunt; you don't go out of beta by closing down without warning and saying "goodbye forever", you announce that you are going out of beta and you have to shut down the site for maintenance reasons.  I can understand if they have initially decided to close it down forever, but pulling something like that without any kind of warning, or a hint that "it's not dead after all" is utter BS to me.

Did you even read it?  They never said "goodbye forever" or even some paraphrasing of that.  Ever.  People assumed that, and panicked about the sky falling down.

Did you miss my last post?

Okay, I'll explain this with an even friendlier, simpler metaphor.

You run a business where you hold people's cars in your garage, as well as taking care of the keys. Your birthday's coming up. To celebrate, you decide to write a fake suicide note, leaving just enough room for interpretation that it's not technically 100%.

Then you go into hiding and pretend you're dead. Taking everyone's cars and car keys with you, denying them access to their property.

In order to get attention. Meanwhile everyone panics and mourns because your letter was phrased as a death note after you spent a while muttering on Twitter about how hard your life was.

Good one.

Howabout "you run a bookstore where people can buy books by phone and come down whenever they want to pick them up. Once a person buys a book, they can also come and get another copy of that same book any number of times free of charge. One day the shop is closed and posted on the door is a notice that sounds like you're closing up shop permanently. Suddenly, every idiot who bought a book and was too ****ing lazy to pick it up gets mad. But rather than get mad at themselves for being retarded, they get mad at you.

They get steaming mad despite the fact that the bottom of the notice says that any books purchased will be available by alternate means in a short amount of time."

So please, cut the melodramatics

It's just a business trying to build some publicity. So long as no one gets screwed out of any money who cares? The original notice stated CLEARLY that everyone would be able to get their games. No one was going to lose anything.

Who got hurt?

No one.

Like I said before, no such thing as bad publicity.
Everyone got in a huff about initially not getting free content for L4D when Valve was doing L4D2 instead, but months later every one of those nerds is probably still spending money on steam and still buying Valve products and waiting for Portal 2 and everything else valve craps out. And why? Because no one lost money, no one got hurt.

Same thing here.

People will still use GoG. Probably more people.
I'll still use it if I find a game I fancy.

Hmmn, no I'll pick.

3. I intend to address that to any "injured" and angry nerd who can't read a notice that clearly says they'll get their 5 dollar game regardless of how they interpret the preceeding paragraphs.

Where are all these injured angry nerds?

Meanwhile we can proceed with mocking GoG for pulling the equivalent of a seventh-grade 'I'M TRANSFERRING TO ANOTHER SCHOOL!' stunt.

Everyone in this thread and on every other site who says 'oh, I can't trust their integrity. I'll never buy from them again.' I can't be bothered to quote them as I'm wasting time as it is.

Oh and btw, "mocking" is one thing, but "completely misrepresenting the reality of the situation by analogy" is something else.

And seventh grade or not. It worked.

i'm going to again state that the original note never suggested to me that they were closing FOR GOOD.  "cannot continue to exist in its CURRENT FORM."  either nobody read that, or they were already raging by the end of reading the note.

Ooh, I have another metaphor!

You have a girlfriend, and she's really great. She cooks sometimes, and she makes you little gifts that you trasure and keep in a shoebox under your bed. You know that she's making something for you that's really cool, and she promises you'll get it next week.

Then you find a note. "We can't go on this way. It just won't last. I'm sorry. Don't worry though, I'll leave your gift on your front door when it's done. See you."

You still have the memories, you still have the old things, you know you'll get the new gift. But the girl you thought would love you forever just wrote you a Dear John letter. You're hurt. And even when you find out she was just kidding, you still find it hard to get over the new distrust you have.

(The presents represent games)

EDIT: I don't really care, I just like making metaphors.

Well, if it turned out the present was *her* on the front door wearing, say, nothing but a gift wrapping ribbon, I'd totally forgive her  ;7

But yeah, they're not going away, it is all a storm in a teacup.

Re: It was a hoax. No need to worry. (previously GOG.com Closing)
At first I was concerned that GOG was actually shutting down. Yes, the wording had holes in it, but SOME PEOPLE did get the impression that they were going to stop doing business. No, this is not a matter of who's right and who's wrong. Different people react and interpret in different ways.

Then, with the rumors, I was concerned that they were doing some major structural changes, like giving up on the "no DRM" policy. (What with them not being able to continue in their current form and all.)

All the time I was angry at them for closing the site without advanced warning. Not polite towards paying customers. Sort of like if you went to a store only to find out that the doors are locked and there's a note saying "Oh, sorry. We're closed now, you know. Because we can. **** you."

Is it possible to upload the game in the internet??
wat

Did you even read the thread? Or are you just generally inquiring if someone would be willing to upload "the game" (FS2?) on the internet?

As a side note, yes: it is possible to upload "the game" on the internet.

dont know about defending the decision but to be hones I couldn't care less, its happened, they are back in an hour and 3/4 according the clock on the site, big whoop we have all seen or heard of companies pull more stupid stunts and it not make a big impact on their public image.  give it 3 months tops and it will just be a bad memory only occasionally thought of due to its long term insignificance
