So now where do we send people to buy FreeSpace? :shaking:

Just see that...  :(

It's a pity, I talked about GOG to many of my friends (even the VERY-not-english-speakers), how wonderful their system was, DRM free, blah blah blah... ****.

The team who owns GOG is the same than the team who create the game The Witcher and his sequel. Hope it would have no consequence  :shaking:

I just get a strange feeling the servers are going to end up being used for some kind of MMO :( That'd be a pity, there's always a market for retro games, but MMOs fall by the wayside on a weekly basis...

EDIT: Apparently they have hinted on twitter that the reason behind it is they were under so much pressure from companies over the DRM situation on the games.

Damn. Well, didn't see that one. As far as I'm concerned, this thread can be deleted then so it won't clutter up the forum. Sorry...
I'm not sure about that. This has special relevance to FreeSpace players who might not see the other thread otherwise, especially given its ambiguous title.

That doesn't make sense though. If the people don't like the no-DRM choice, they shouldn't allow their games to go up on GoG in the first place. Bunch of hosers.

I wonder which publishers...

People, relax. It's just a marketing stunt. Worse one ever. I don't know who at CDP thought this was a good idea to drop the beta and go final in such manner, but he's a moron.

And yes, it is a stunt, CEO warned financial forums couple days ago to ignore what will appear on Gog site soon. .t. It's a mess overall...23rd there was supposed to be full blown conference (like the one in Spring, when they've shown Witcher 2 for the first time), but it was just annouced it won't happen and there will be online conference instead.

Anyway, bassicaly GoG is simply ending it's beta phase and going final, that's all. Some speculate it will get a standalone client too.
???????

I don't know if that's at all true, but if it is, it's messed up. Also kind of clever. But mainly messed up.

  • The sky is the limit.
That'd make sense, people will start paying more and devs would be able to say "that's all we were able to give you" if anybody complained.

We shall see.

It will be a shame if CDP act like THIS. A site like GOG.com is (or was ?) quite unique, and it's a pity if they fall in such commercial like this.

Don't hit me, I know, it's the terrible law of the market, blah blah blah. But the way they were selling their games made their... hem... good flavor.

If I had the choice between a free -but maybe crippled with viruses- game and the same game I can own for a symbolic price, my choice is quickly made.

Few more sites confirming that it's just a marketing ploy.

I'm relieved but annoyed at whoever thought such a stupid thing was a good idea. I was genuinely scared when I read that it had closed and then found that message on their site!  :shaking:

They should have waited for April 1st!
