Forgive me if this is old news but I stumbled upon this and thought it might be useful. I'm going to take a crack at modeling the mineral ship.

Yes, we know about this. We actually have pretty good references and for the most part don't need help in that regard. Do post wip shots as you go along, however - if it turns out good enough we could use that ship in Diaspora, don't have the mineral miner yet.
Also, not sure if you're aware of this, but there were two variants of this ship, the differences being the number and placement of those round docking clamps things.

Any Viper in Diaspora that's built for combat that requires two crew, will always have a tandem cockpit.  Trust me it just looks better by a incalculable margin.

In TOS, the Rag Tag fleet finds Earth, but not the real Earth ( our Earth).
The Eastern Allience is in conflict with the peace loving opposition and starts a War. Galactica saves the day, and everything's fine again.

EDIT: Apart from the original Mk I ( the Starhound Viper), all designs are ****ing ugly, imo.
Never liked any of the designs ( Scorpion, Mk IV, Scarlet).

So is having a saucer, deflector and nacelles for star trek. Doesn't mean that most of the zillion kitbashes people made are any good
Personally, if I ever see another saucer/nacelles combo that looks like a crossbreed between an excelsior and a galaxy, I'm going to scream..

Anyway, we're drifting away from the original subject. To OP: if you ever do build that mineral miner ship, be sure to post some shots of it here.

A little more progress. I got rid of the little greebles inside the middle part because they were way too expensive.
