"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

Server IP change

IP is now: 184.22.118.104:25555
Mumble at: 184.22.118.104:64738
Dynmap at http://184.22.118.104:8128

Kyad reports much faster chunk loading, I would like to hear other experiences.

Haven't been able to connect since the IP change. Probably something on my end seeing as everyone is connecting fine.
[16:57] <CommanderDJ> What prompted the decision to split WiH into acts?
[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something

Checking server logs, you seem to be getting an end of stream error, server restarted, this might fix it.

Notch announced there will be two kinds of dragons:

Red Dragon - A dragon which flies around and can land. They roam the overworld. Running into one is probably reason to be careful. There's no news on if they only spawn at night but I assume dragons fly around all day. These are supposedly planned to be included after the official release.

Ender Dragon - A black dragon of insurmountable power. There will only spawn one in the Ender world (now known as The End). It will stay in the air and scoop down to attack you, breaking any block in it's path in it's rampage. Beating one is supposed to be near-to-impossible without serious equipment, enchantments and potion buffs. It probably takes a group to beat one. It's unknown if there will only be one at a time, or if only one spawns once. I imagine there is some kind of reward. They are bigger than Red Dragons and will already be included in 1.9. An Ender Dragon in action.

On items:

There seem to be enchanted items which you improve by using a spell from the new spellbook. Enchanting spells are casted by spending level-up points you get when you grab enough experience spheres (the yellowish green blobs mobs drop on death). Enchanted items get a blue name, indicating they are magic or uncommon items and get bonuses similar to hack-'n-slash games such as diablo, examples are: Knockback I, Smite II etc. Golden apples suddenly have a purple name, which seems similar to epic items in games such as World of Warcraft, Tabula Rasa, Diablo 3, so perhaps this indicates the future may hold legendary or rare epic items.

I saw that video earlier, and I thought it would be pretty amusing just once to see the destruction that 50 or so ender dragons would cause.

Edit: A mod that lets you spawn ender dragons with a gold sword was made like an hour after release. It wasn't as amusing as I hoped it to be, they just fly in one direction to a certain point on the world and fly in circles there about 30 blocks up.

I'm starting to make a few cautious forays into fooling around with the freebie Classic mode on the site and this 90-minute PCGamer demo.  Is there a concrete release date after which I couldn't lock into the beta price for the full version?  I still want to waffle a bit on whether or not I want to snag it. :p

Freebie classic is boring. :p

The Alpha period passed around a year ago and the price was raised to the current cost; AFAIK it'll remain the current amount indefinitely...

Really?  I thought I'd seen that once it officially comes out of beta, the price will jump up somewhat.

And hey, I built a totally awesome rectangular brick house in freebie classic. :p

According to the minecraft.net page, the beta is 25% off what the final version will cost.

So according to the buy it now page, it's $21.95 at this time (I'm pretty sure that's in US dollars, it used to be listed euros).

I will leave the math to figure out the final cost as an exercise to the reader (no, it's not a case of I'm too lazy to do it my self, whatever gave you that idea?) :)

POSIX is fine, as is Rev or RP

In preparation of 1.9, I shall try and build a beautiful grand library today where things such as enchanting and brewing can be practised when the new content is released. The grand library will be somewhat secluded but remains accessible from most areas on foot or by rail. I will resume the island one or two days after this with new ideas I gathered. :D

Eh? $21.95? Glad I bought it early...

Took a ride around the various subway lines near town. It's fairly interesting how many places you can get to without even exiting your minecart.

  • Hey man. Peace. *Car hits them* Frakking hippies
In regards to the dragons, I think Bethesda secretly came to an agreement to lower certain lawsuit stuff if he included dragons that act awfully similar to them dragons in Skyrim
Or he's taking the piss on Bethesda
Or it was always an idea

I don't think it's always been an idea

He's taking the piss on Bethesda for sure! The enchantment table has spells written in 'Standard Galactic Alphabet' from the Commander Keen series. One of the spells is "the elder scrolls". :D
