Guys, 1.9 has completely new nether terrain generation code, with strongholds and NPC stuff in it. How do people feel about completely deleting the nether and starting it from scratch?

Just copy-paste Nojo's outpost and strip the rest? He put hours of work in there. You can easily paste it back in, I managed to do that with MCEdit also.

But yes, a new nether is cool.

If the nether needs reseting so bi it.  All I ask is a warning first so I can rip up the rails and a fair amount of smoothstone so I can re-build.

With the zeppelin mod, you can build a freespace ship, then make it fly :DDDDDDDDDDDDDD
The default block limit for a ship is 1024 blocks i think, but that can be bumped up in the config. However if you bump it up be prepared for lag (depending on how good your computer is)

Ya, 1st server on the OP we're building a Fenris on.

The server is quite mod free though, with the exception of /home and locking stuff. And even if we could fly it, there isnt a whole lot of vertical room since the thing is 120ish meters tall.

I was just watching videos of that on youtube! But does it work in multi?

Unfortunately it isn't SMP yet, and won't be for quite for time yet. But you could always use MCEdit or something to copy ships to a single player world and fly it there.

Maybe Qaz can agree to give you creative. It'd be AWESOME!!! to make a new nether station in the style of the actual nether strongholds. It would blend in. Actually many nether strongholds are quite spacious, you could turn them into stations too.

Not a bad idea about using creative, if only to get the major overworld portals reconnected.  As for building in the style of the nether strongholds, not a bad idea but I'd rather continue using overworld materials.  I was going for the 'taming' the nether approach, bringing safety to a otherwise hostile environment.  Think Moon Base Alpha, in the nether and no stockpiles of nukes to send it into deep space.

I started fooling around with that PC Gamer demo, which gives you five days' worth of Survival to play with.  They start you off with a chest full of a couple of tools and useful items, and I already knew how to make a workbench from watching a getting started video, but it's a bit frustrating not really knowing what the heck I can make, or how I can go about making it.  Jamming random unsuccessful combinations of materials into the workbench isn't doing too much for me.
