Haha, reminds me of one time early in my minecraft days when I stayed up allllll niiiight exploring some caves.  After passing through a few uneventful tunnels, I came across a new/dark path that immediately branched in two.  I heard spiders and skeletons somewhere to the left, so I erected a dirt barrier on that side to block them off, and went right.  Proceeded a little ways, turned a corner, dead end.  Turned around and OGOD SPIDER JUMPING INTO MY FACE AAAAAAAAGH!!!!

Yeeeah, it startled me so severely that I shouted a death-yell loud enough to wake the whole house up. :U 
Turned out I had missed a spot in my hasty construction of the dirt wall, and a spider, the little bastard, must have gotten through it and then snuck up on me completely silently until the moment I turned around.

I recommend reading the Mob Spawning page on the Minecraft Wiki if you haven't already. Of particular interest:

In multiplayer, mob caps are shared by all players, no matter where they are. If one player can make a lot of mobs spawn near them, say, with a mob farm, players elsewhere in the world will see fewer mobs of the same category. Likewise, if a player can prevent mobs from spawning near them, perhaps by hanging around a large body of water and illuminating nearby caves, they will effectively dump their mobs on everyone else.

In this instance, the player hogging all the mobs would be Trashman. Which is funny cause he doesn't want any of them.

On another note....hostile mobs still not spawning properly on qaz's server. I don't really play it much anymore for that reason, still bummed I put so much effort into my trap but it won't work.

Go set up housing in Trashman's area, help him defend his home!

True, true.... I count 40+ monsters almost every night. And no, I'm not overblowing this. Literaly 40+ monsters.
Endermen, creepers, zombies, skelletons - all number in minimum 10. And spider jokeys pop up occasionally too.

It has to be that memory saving plugin.
Otherwise when trashman logs off all the mobs would despawn and then spawn around the next person that logs in. The fact that they arn't means that they are being saved inside those chunks.

To fight a creeper without bow & arrows.

* Always walk backwards, that way they usually stop exploding so you can hit them again.
* Right click with a sword to block, this stops creeper explosions too.
* Wear armour, in 1.9 which is out soon you can repair armour (and other items).

Alternately, you make a BFG 9000...

Or get at least a Knockback I enchantment so you can effectively double the throw distance of sprint attacks.
On ****ing Easy difficulty they've basically become instagib mobs with like twice the explosion radius.

Also lol that BFG is a combination of Final Release's power with the Beta's Rate of Fire (Somewhat).

Except all of a sudden one explodes directly behind my back with no armor or obstructions and only removes four hearts. Creepers no longer make any sense anymore.

Swiched account yesterday so my nephew (for which the account was intended until I made the 'mistake' to test the game, hooked right away) can play the server too when he pleases, fought off the recent monster invasion in Trashman's area, explored and found my little fort/home back after a long search with Trashman. Kyad also helped out more, got all the materials I need now to make my place look really decent. Too bad I'm home at midnight my time tonight so I won't be able to build much on it.

Also tip for everyone, exploring caves for valuables is much better to do with someone around to help out or to watch for mobs. Less watching your own back and more mining.

I prefer to go mining alone, that way I can nab all the resources for myself.
The best thing to do with a friend is mob spawner hunting, which is actually really fun.

Ladders are mainly a means of convenience for getting in and out of any strongly vertical section of cavern, which occurs fairly often now with the "new" cave-generation code (cough cough pits and ravines).  Otherwise you can just dig/place steps to the same effect, just takes slightly longer.

Alternatively, you could go balls out on a mining adventure, and when you're ready or need to return to surface just dig a stairway upwards.  And hope you're not under an ocean. D:

That's happened quite a few times for me on the server. Drowned a few times, too. Some you guys might remember me commenting on a pre-1.8 trench that was underwater near my castle.

Scale is 1 grid square = 1 block, but it can be adapted to 2 blocks per grid by eye easily enough.

I chose it based on the simplicity of the angles since I wasn't going to make it huge, and I've already made a 120m long Herc. Also, the Loki is deadly in the right hands (and not just to the pilot flying it).

Those blueprints are very squished, but the theoretical dimensions (20m X 14m X 10m) were kept.

In-game, the nose looks too fat by one block on either side.  Checking with the blueprints confirms, it should only be three blocks wide at that part of the craft, not five.

Its a silly little 20x14x10    Give me a couple weeks and 120x84x60 and it wont look so ugly. Hell, I'd do the skull and cross bones at that scale.
