Re: In case anyone lives under a rock...
I've finished the game many times over and to me it clearly stood out as turn-based because that's how it showed up: I'd attack, then my character would pause and the enemy would attack. Rinse, repeat. This is also shown in the fact that you have to queue up attacks and powers, you can't just attack/use powers one after the other with no delay, you have to wait until your next turn.

[16:58] <battuta> it was long, we wanted to release something

When you say turn-based combat, I think of Fallout or King's Bounty.

In KOTOR the mechanics are turn-based but gameplay itself is real-time with pause function.

Very well, I concede the point to you. I agree with your last sentence there.

Bought Wings of Prey for $6 for my girlfriend - new dogfight buddy, woohoo :D

Also just bought Section 8 for $5. Good price for the game, really solid gameplay, just terribly generic.

I haven't read a wronger statement all day.

The combat is fine. The game is excellent. Play it.

Yes. That. "Turn-based" as relating to KOTOR has absolutely nothing to do with the turn-based combat of Fallout or King's Bounty. It is, for all intents and purposes, real-time combat with the ability to pause at will.

Anyone here played Dead Space on PC and think it's worth the $6.80?

I played it on 360 and rather liked it, I'd spring for it.

... Like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and every other RPG made by Bioware before Mass Effect.

So if you liked anyone of those, you will probably like this one too.

Re: In case anyone lives under a rock...
He's pretty much correct, mind, KOTOR combat is revoltingly bad in appearance and feel. I honestly can't remember any of the fights except "god this is awful" and I've played through it more than once.

It's worth it, or at least the first is, for the story. But the combat system blows chunks.

Yes and yes.

Also, it's $6.80. That's like a fast food meal. Why is this a question?
I will ask that you explain yourself. Please do so with the clear understanding that I may decide I am angry enough to destroy all of you and raze this sickening mausoleum of fraud down to the naked rock it stands on.

As strange as it may seem, there are those of us out there who look upon any combat system that isn't real-time direct-control as being decidedly inferior to the aforementioned. :p

how the hell can that statement be wrong?  i watched the video of gameplay.  i do not like the style.  therefore not purchasing the game for myself was  GOOD DECISION.  what is "wrong" about that?  your personal opinion of the combat factors in at exactly ZERO in my enjoyment of the game.

It might have something to do with the fact that neither of the video links you replied to were videos of KOTOR, but rather of games whose gameplay have absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay in KOTOR. So yes, if you made your decision based on the videos linked in the post you were replying to, you did indeed make a bad decision.

Re: In case anyone lives under a rock...
You're only half-correct there. KOTOR's combat is turn-based only in the background. To player it is very much real-time that can be paused at any time. Take a look at this youtube vid for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBjxiUVJsu4

What if we've never played them because we're fairly sure we won't like said combat systems? :nervous:
