Oh, so you want one of the head ani's images.
I'm no expert on that but I think you should look for .pcx's images that fit with the head ani entry for command, you can see that from fred.
Eventually someone will come along and tell you exactly which files you are looking for and where to look for them, I'm nowhere near my pc right now so I can't help.

The head ani used by command is Head-CM2. You can find it inside the sparky_fs2.vp file in the root directory of FreeSpace2. There are three actual files in there - Head-CM2a, b and c. To extract a specific frame, however, you will need to use ANIVIW32, which is part of Descent Manager Tools.

Command guy can actually be found in the default FS2 mainhall. You know, the guy near the bottom or bottom left staring whose console shows schematics of a Perseus when he looks away? There's no mistaking how identical both him and the head .ani command are.

Speaking of in-game character models and their resemblance to real people, I think the dark-skinned Asian-looking fellow that you can select as a pilot in the FS2 barracks screen resembles one of Volition's staff. I can't remember his name, I think it was something of Indian Subcontinental origin, but I read an interview he gave for a games magazine about 10 years ago which had a picture of him in it. A look at the credits might jog my memory.
