Assert error! couldn't find a solution please help
Hey guys, when I play WiH in 3rd Mission I get this error. It happens when a "maxim squadron" appears.

I think I installed everything correctly and played AoA without any problems.

I did read something about a debug log?!? but couldn't find anything so if u need more information please tell me.

I honestly tried to solve it myselve but none of the topics I found solved it.
So plz help. I love your mod! it's totally awsome but I can't get past this error.

Should be an easy fix (though it's not an error I've seen before...). Run a debug build (ends in -d or -debug) until you hit this error, then quit the game, find the file called fs2_open.log, and post it.

Uh, just to be on the safe side, running the debug build isn't the fix. It''ll just produce a log, which you must then post here. Then, people here can take a look at the log and hopefully tell you what is wrong and how to fix it.

And since you've already been playing with a debug build, the log (file name "fs2_open.log") should be in your \freespace2\data\ directory.

I read something about frame time. but i already deleted aadvanced visuals and lowerd the graphic settings. but the error didn't change and i had a lower frame rate in other situations.

I don't immediately see anything wrong. Have you been playing with a debug build the whole time? You should be playing with an R-build (ends in -r, or simply lacks a -d or -debug) tag. Does playing with that build make the error stop happening?

First, use the magic [code] tags. Second, preferably, attach them to your post instead of posting them directly.

Now, as to the problem, this _might_ be an issue with you using the german version of FS2, But honestly, this would be the first time I've seen it pop up. Question is, can you play through the mission using a regular build, or does it just crash?

First I apologize for violating forum posting standards it won't happen again.

second can u plz explain what du mean with regular build?

honestly I just activated one of the two fs2open.exe by randome so I don't know if i played with debug mode the hole time. I will try out the other version now.

Well u were right i did play in debug mode the hole time and now the error didn't happen when i played in regular.
So the problem is fixed, but it's a bit strange that the debug mode doesn't work...or not?

Perhaps u should mention which of the two files should be used to to play the game. Perhaps there is another idiot like me who just use the wrong .exe


But seriously thanks for your help u do a hell of a job here my respect

While it would make the filename even longer, writing out debug instead of just -d would work well enough I think, unless there is some limit for filenames in the launcher or something like that.

I suspect what should be done is simply to have them called 'FreeSpace Open 3.6.12 PLAY WITH ME' and 'FreeSpace 2 Open 3.6.12 DEBUG WITH ME' or some similarly transparent stuff.

Or just have the debug build pop up a notice saying it's for debug use, and have that dialog able to be turned off via an .ini file or something.
