Uninstalled  now ...

Seriously... I am speechless.

The X-Series was always flawed ... but it had it's moments as well.

Pretty much all of that is gone. The basic gameplay that was fun.... trading, exploring, building stations, etc ... is a horribly convoluted mess now, as if they wanted to make playing the game intentionally as aggravating as possible. From the hilariously broken / unusuable sector map to the idiotic trading mechanics and the utter idiocy of having to run around the same copy paste space station everytime you are looking for people that you now constantly have to talk to to get the most basic stuff done. .... hah.... let's not even mention the "highway" mechanic with copy paste gameplay out of 1990's 8bit racing games ... a crappy 8bit racing game mind you LOL.

Apparently Egosoft does not even understand what their fans liked in their games at all, as they pretty much took all of the stuff that was fun out ... and the stuff they replaced it with ... supposedly to appeal to a larger audience ... is so outright broken/unfun/idiotic that I consider the whole thing not just unplayable, but pretty much an insult to anyone who had the misfortune of paying money for this garbage.

New Stations are pretty (from the outside). And that's about it.

Worse than Sots2 at launch imho.... as with Sots2 you could at least still hope for a fun game after all the bugs were fixed... but even if they fixed all the bugs in X Rebirth you'd still have a game full of broken, repetitive and outright unfun/aggravating design and gameplay choices.

Unbelievable really.

They should have stuck with remaking the last X game with better graphics as they used to do...

At least some improvements to some of the more annoying things are coming!

Frankly... it makes me quite sad to say this, but I don't think it matters.

As said above, the real issue aren't really the bugs or lack of polish, but rather that the basic gameplay underneath is utter garbage as well.

They can't really fix that short of going back to the drawing board and starting from scratch.

If the fanbase is gonna have any chance of fixing this, they need the ability to throw out entire sections of the game like the stations and the "lol no you can only fly one ship" part.

LOL. There is already a mod that makes everything acessible without ever landing on stations

Regarding the "lol no you can only fly one ship", I don't see how this is a valid complaint. The original X also restricted you to one ship.

It's hardly an issue and imho not even worth mentioning compared to the gamebreaking issues that the game does have galore.

I want to play more because I'm actually enjoying it, but the trader bug where it refuses to move at all ever even when you set the order up properly means I'm putting it on hold until it's fixed.

So who wants to develop an FS2 total conversion for X3AP in the meantime? :P

Now that would be quite interesting to see.

I did a bit of googling and saw that a mod was in development by one German dude but that was back in 2009 to 2011. He did a pretty good Orion model though.

I wonder how some of the newer stuff would do with modeled hangers etc

For some some strange reasons I got X Rebirth as a gift by Egosoft, though I never was part of its development team (just mentioning!). It was the box edition, but no CE, so I installed and played it for about two hours in total and decided it wasn't worth my time.

First thing you see is the Argon Encyclopedia telling you something of the Albion Skunk, which doesn't really make sense to me as it tells you that the trace of the ship got lost after a battle, so you don't really learn anything about the ship. Then you're thrown right into the game with that stupid Yisha entering your ship and telling you what to do. I mean What the...? Then she's activating the afterburners and your character warns her of the presence of the PMC and that you shouldn't do such a breakout when police forces are nearby. Then you check and see: No PMC strike craft nearby. Inconsistency everywhere.

The animations as mentioned are worse than bad and also the textures look like washed out. Then, as I continued the plot, it took about 15 minutes for the plot to stop because of a stupid trade bug. Had to start from scratch and the same bug happened again. Left the plot and switched to the non-plot game, but shortly noticed that trading isn't possible the way it was before and thus you barely get the chance to build up an empire like you could in X3. I decided to wait and look out for patches, while in the meantime exploring the universe, which is really beautiful, but that's it. The game design doesn't match my interests and there are 'features' included, like Xenon ships spawning when flying too far out of the sector center, that just take away everything that could make for a good game, so I stopped gaming, deinstalled, sent back my copy to Egosoft with a small letter expressing my opinion on the game and its content and asked Steam to get rid of that key and explaining the circumstances.

The letter to Egosoft I wrote about the game wasn't a big one. Just told them to either stop developing longterm projects when things like X Rebirth turn out to be the result. Or they get back to less casual like game designs that fans can identify with.
