SERIOUSLY...! | {The Sandvich Bar} - Rhino-FS2 Tutorial | CapShip Turret Upgrade | The Complete FS2 Ship List | System Background Package

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Currently im at school, but after next year im going to university to probably do Aeronautical engineering, and then hopefully i can have a nice dark reaserch lab underground to design the future of paper planes.  Projects like the X-43 SCRAM jet intrest me.

I think you mean WindowsNT or Windows2k. There's not Win95NT. As for the cable/switch thing, you're likely runing Cat5 (which is rated for 100mb) because no one bothers buying Cat3 anymore (10mb). Of course, if all your machines are running 10/100mb NICs, it would be stupid to be running 10mb switches--and its always stupid to run hubs with more than two ports (bridges).

Congrats on the job, though. I'm starting a job search myself.

Yeah sory i ment WindowsNT, yup where using Cat5 and all our machines are running 10/100mb NICs, so it is indeed stupid, we need to image 276 Thoshiba Tecra 9000 laptops, and whit more then 2 laptops conected to the image server ( conected trough 5 switches:wtf: it doesn't make sence we need a direct line trough the server ) it runs like **** trough a funnel. They use 20 ports hubs. stupid stupid.

Hubs are a very bad idea for multicast imaging of servers. When I worked at a university, we would image the labs on a regular basis. It would take all weekend to image a 30 machine lab. When we setup a new lab, we dropped a nice 10/100 switch in there and *BAM* the imaging was done in something like two hours for an 8gig image. Needless to say, we went on a buying rampage and replaced all the hubs in the network with switches (turns out there were many squirreled away in places the network wasn't supposed to go!).

Yup, whit 2 machines we need to image per machine it takes 2 hours to image ( max 1gb image ) a damn laptop. I also sugetsed in a meeting to start replacing all the hubs. And if they don't want to do that we need atleast a seperate line to the image server.
But those ****tard of a financial manager doesn't want to invest in  new stuff. a company needs to put 5% of it's income into the modinisation. but thats 2% now. The server room is messed up you can't see what wire leads to. And those new flat servers are standing on the ground on apiece of cardboard and the old junk in the server cases. I am i stupid or is this very unprofesional?

In my experience, Darkage, that IS professional. Most every shop i've ever worked in has had that sort of of stuff.

I would have expected more from a company that places/repairs etc elevators and escalators world wide. atleast that they put the servers on the cardboard into the server case. But sill i seen worse.

The company works with elevators and escalators? Ah, they must be into machine design and physics then! ;7

I am unemployed so far and am currently not in school anymore, so my job consists of working on my FS2 campaign and doing math stuff all day. :p I am thinking of applying for an internship position at the nearby NIST complex in the summer. (where I can get paid to do math ;7)
