Can they maintain structural integrity with a fuselage like...that?

I'd imagine that has the potential to freak the **** out of some passengers.

Every single feature described in that article will be ripped out and replaced with more seating.

It is, however, really ****ing cool.

Re: Airbus's Transparent Future
maybe you can make passengers feel better after getting fist ****ed at the airport.

its all concept and no actual information on materials or how they plan to make the plane not fall apart in flight. transparent material can be pretty damn heavy when compared to aluminum or composites. you would need to come up with a very impressive breakthrough in materials to do something like this.

that said i do rather like the shape of the airframe. but as with every design imaginable, it will no doubt be fitted during production runs with your standard seating, ripping out the spa and the vr dome in favor of more passenger space. youve seen this done on the a380 and 747, and other aircraft touted as luxury airliners.

i tend to avoid flying these days. not because i dont like to fly, but because i dont like being treated like a criminal at the ****ing airport. i think il just take boats and trains from now on, its cheaper and doesnt subtract from my dignity.

Amen. I've been flying for years, and it's recently been a whole helluva lot less fun in general than I remember it being.

On-topic: Yeah, concept for 2050. Cool design, though; I'd be wickedly impressed should something like that proposed aircraft ever materialize.

The "vitalizing zone" concept sounds kind of hilarious.

Aw, I was kinda hoping for a flying wing. :(

The "vitalizing zone" concept sounds kind of hilarious.
Why don't they just pump super air through the entire plane? :wtf:

Maybe some people would react allergically. Or the air smells like something not everyone would appreciate. Oh, and it maybe is expensive.
But I'm sure a plane this awesome won't be realized. Well at least not for the masses.

Are they going to use Transparent Aluminum? :P
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

wings are so 20th century. as soon as we enter the hypersonic era, we will need little or no wings at all.

I'm sure there's a joke about Boeing being better than Airbus somewhere in your thread's title.

While the idea is awesome, I for one would rather not watch our avian companions (or hominids with parachutes) become windshield smears, or in this case, air-pizza.

The ridiculousness of the concept just rose ten thousand-fold.
Consequently, the chances of it ever happening dropped a hundred thousand-fold.

I especially like the part where you get to play golf in the middle section of the plane. One person at a time of course
