They're waiting for tutorials ;)

About that tut you made.
It might be tad large @ 10 Mb. Put up one without that ani for 56kers.

Just too bad I don't use Lightwave :p

Indeed, not everyone is good at making tutorials and not everyone has the software to make them either - myself included (well, as far as modelling programs goes). But I'm sure that once things get started we can look forward to building up quiet a database :)

Oh, and it might be a bit late to mention this now but can people try and keep the image size down as well as keeping things consistant. As much as it'll be great to have all these tutorials coming in it'll look a tad scruffy if they all vary drastically in image usage and style.

if you are new to Lightwave or any other progam. I think it should containt enough pics to let people see what you are talking about. if i start to talk about the grap editor in LW and the user never seen/used it before it's handy to let them see how the settings should look like.

And the pics in my doc file are also outside the doc file for a more clearer view.

Yeah, what I mean't to say was thumbnail things if possible, keep them small (we don't need to see your entire desktop if what you've taking a picture of is 100x300 or whatever), know what I mean? :)

Agreed.  I'm almost done with the template now.  All thats left is some minor images.  I should be done with it later today.

It's not a bit late if you take the tutorial I did as an example for everyone. :) No, seriously - take a look and see if that's the type of image sizes you had in mind. :D

It's in the siggy, BTW... ;)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I think thats ok, what I really think is best is thumbnailing large images and trying to crop images where possible so that only the important illustration of what your looking at at the time is included.

As far as consistency in writing goes, this is hard to pull off - so I don't think we should try and lay down any rules for it. As long as everything is clearly explained so that a newbie could pick it up and understand it, it'll be fine :)

Harg !! you need a HTML editor for this.
1. i don't have one.
2. i suck at HTML big time.
3. i used a word document for my tutorials and imo is much easyer, i had this idea of just uploading the file so it shows up in a TUT section whit a discription on what thentut is about so people can download it.

But that is just me.

Since most people seem to be into the idea that they're hosted on HLP I think they'll be using HLP formatting anyways which will mean some HTML work on our part as well as a little tweaking of everyones submissions (nothing drastic mind you), but if you want to submit it in HTML form we can then put it into HTML alongwith thumbnails and so on later on. It'll take longer to add each one this way but the overall effect should be much more impressive and easier for those using the tuts to cope with.

Is that ok with everyone?

darkage: Now would be a good time to learn.  I already sent you a link to a large resource that has dozens of free/shareware HTML editors to choose from.  Hell, if you're having that hard a time then just remove the images from the document (leave references to the file names of course) and send the whole thing to me over ICQ and I'll convert it for you.

Thunder: Is there anything that you need me to change on the template? (so you, or anyone else, won't have to edit every single submission.)

As for available staff to upload the tuts....why not create a Tutorials dir and create an account so that I can do the uploading myself (save you guys the hastle).  And if you're worried about security, then just grant me access to that dir only.  Just something for ya to think about.
