but I can't seem to get it quite right with Excel, any have any suggestions?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

I wasn't referring to it's tiltedness. :P

They're probably using a lot more columns than what you see and made the months grid stick out by manipulating the border rules. They either use a layout by weeks or days (probably the former) but I can't tell that just from a single screen-shot.
"I was going to become a speed dealer. If one stupid fairytale turns out to be total nonsense, what does the young man do? If you answered, “Wake up and face reality,” you don’t remember what it was like being a young man. You just go to the next entry in the catalogue of lies you can use to destroy your life." - John Dolan

Yes, thankfully your answer is so detailed and precise that we all instantly knew the exact problems you had

Re: Stupid spreadsheet question
Hmmm, I'm not quite sure exactly what you are trying to replicate, but I'll see what I can do.
I don't have Excel in front of me right now, but it seems to be a simple combination of heavy, colored borders and an embedded bar graph. http://www.ncsu.edu/labwrite/res/gt/gt-bar-home.html
I don't know why it's all on it's side, but I imagine there's a setting for that somewhere as well.

Re: Stupid spreadsheet question
It's a Gantt chart, isn't it? I think it would be difficult to create one of those in Excel (well, obviously, since you asked for help), at least to make it look like the screenshot you posted. However, a quick search on Google ("Create a gantt chart") turns up this among other resources - maybe give that a go?

Re: Stupid spreadsheet question
It looks like all the thin lines are gridlines in excel, but the green bars are smartobjects that are drawn in. Explains why none of them are properly centered in their row.

  • A one hit wonder, you still want to touch this.
Re: Stupid spreadsheet question
See if you can convert it to a spreadsheet format.
