Used cars...what do you drive?
I'm a big fan of used cars since you can find some really decent quality ones for an awesome price. No loans, no payments (unless you can't pay all at once), decent price; this is awesome. What used cars do you guys have that you really love?

I'll start off.
I bought this 1989 dodge dynasty for $700 (yes this one is fuel injected, **** fuel injector hooked up to carburetor) back in may. Handed cash over and i own it. This car actually works properly, so i keep up with the maintenance regularly to keep it that way. It also has a 3 liter v6 (opposed to my old 4 cylinder 1.9 liter in old death car).

Extremely minor issues i don't care to fix: gear shift indicator doesn't work (it's an automatic, not hard to figure out park, reverse, neutral, overdrive, drive, and low without a dash guide), speed sensor is ****ed (so i plugged in my car gps i got free to be speedometer, will get this fixed one day, but am lazy). No, i didn't just up and go buy a random car that was for sale. Bought it from my mechanic who told me everything that was up with it, answered all of my questions, stands by his work, and this car has proven itself to be a very good deal since day one.

Yes, it's known as a grandma car, but it actually has respect, style, and pimposity compared to my old mercury tracer (i can also sleep in it with the awesome bench seats comfortably (the idea of what if i went homeless was a selling point for me)). Mercury tracer is another story about death car (thx dad).

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?

That's roughly what my first car was, cept it had a moon roof and spoiler/luggage rack thing on the trunk.  Olds Regency 98 Brougham; same color and burgundy cloth top, though it was the sport model so the tires where more racy and it had some cool features.  The electrical was occasionally a bit flunky but man she could howl despite being a bit of a boat.  I had a lot of fun with that car.

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?
Had a beige 98 Buick Regal LS for about 8 months as my first car, till I ditched it in the middle of winter no more than 30 seconds from being home. Stupidity on my part. Loved that car. Tons of power, comfortable, beautiful highway cruiser.

Then had a purple 98 Plymouth Neon for a year and a half. Cost an arm and a leg to keep running, but put 50 thousand k on it, when I sold it it had 354k. Lots of breakdown stories in this car. Guy I sold it to demolition derbied it, apparently they couldn't kill it XD.

Then I bought a blue 92 Saturn SL2 5 speed. Only had 231000 on it when I bought it, has 257 now. Still have it, it's up for sale right now. Needs a catalytic converter, some brake lines; and a windshield; but it's still a nice car to drive, all the power options work, power sunroof, etc. I'm going to miss it.

Then my girlfriend's dad offered to sell me the car that was supposed to be my girlfriend's (She doesn't have her licence yet) on a "pay me back when you get the money" basis. Which was great because I'm in uni and more or less broke. So now I'm driving a 04 Chrysler Sebring Touring with the 2.7 V6. And owe my girlfriend's dad about 2500 dollars. Still, it's a nice car, and I should't need to spend as much keeping it going. And when I drive as much as I do, on the roads I do, it's nice being able to trust my car.

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?
I'm still cruising in the sea-green '97 Ford Escort I got from my grandmother years ago.  The thing only has somewhere around 75k miles on it (the odometer was stuck on 70204 for more than a year and only recently started working again), and it still runs pretty well.  A single power lock, (human) power windows, a state-of-the-art cassette deck that I can throw an adapter into to use my MP3 player...living the dream, baby.

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?
I had a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, up until about a year ago. It was rusted to buckets, everything leaked, but it ran fine, regardless. Eventually, though, due to electrical problems, two new batteries and then a new alternator couldn't keep it alive. Not certain what the main issue was, except it couldn't keep a charge and wouldn't start up without a jump when it was at its worst. You get very attached to your very first car, and I was very sad to see it go.

Blazer 4.3 (I hate litres...sounds like something one should drink wine from).  Also a Vulcan 1500 drifter.  And although I don't have a pic of mine, picture the fenders and running boards on this being black, and Cragar SS rims.    My 32 Ford

White 2000 Saturn SW2 (Wagon version of SL2) with 230,000 miles on it.

This, w/out the roof rack.

EDIT: what I love about it is it get 33 MPG on a bad day (ie, 75+MPH), 40+MPG if you drive like a granny and put the clutch in down hills.

I've owned a couple of Jettas. Not because of much of anything besides the fact when people tried to kill me by driving like goddamn lunatics, they saved my life.

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?
99 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 (6-cylinder 4.0L) with 185226 miles. It was a hand me down from my parents after a divorce and my dad buying a Dodge Dakota (we're a bit of a chrysler family). Runs fine, only issues are:

Bolt broke off in one of the rear shock mount points, so now it's welded.

Air conditioner doesnt work (assuming the compressor is cracked, so it's not worth fixing right now)

Horn is currently broken, but Im fixing that.

Otherwise, it runs superbly. I've got so many memories in this thing, it's been so reliable, and got me through some rough situations. It's going to be a heartbreaker when I retire it (if I even do) :)

I drove my parents' '85 Crown Victoria station wagon for a few years, before I brought my (used) 2000 Civic. I actually really enjoyed driving that thing, it was like driving a tank :)

Man I miss station wagons.  You could cram 3 or 4 kids in there and still have a truck bed's worth of storage in the back.

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?

Nice cars (i like boats). I haven't seen any crown victorias around. But, i have seen plenty of regency's, and more than enough dodge k cars flying around interior alaska. Every now and again i will see another dynasty flying around too. For my next car i do want to get a 1989 lincoln town car or another dynasty. That would be sweet.
a state-of-the-art cassette deck that I can throw an adapter into to use my MP3 player...living the dream, baby.
Yup, same here. Screw updating to some dumb new audio dash mount, and screw cd's. That tape deck will keep working until it breaks some time far off into the future, and those adapters really get the job done for anything that will plug into them. I have an infinity audio system in mine.

I do have some nitpicks with my car. While it's a good looking awesome car i have.
Nitpick 1. How 1970's of my car. WTF? I've seen the exact same in dash gauge setup inside of other older cars before. Yes that's a picture of the canadian version, the only difference in kph (the american version just goes up to 85mph).

Nitpick 2. My car reminds me of a mouse pointer. ****ty picture, whatever, the shape of the car has a lot in common with searching and double clicking icons.

I should post a picture, shouldn't I? (Yeah, it's missing a cap on the right rear too. Can't be assed to get another right now.)

Re: Used cars...what do you drive?
I just raced a chrysler new yorker. It was funny, i just looked over at their car and was like nice car. They just started revving the engine. It wasn't icy at that red light so i went for it. I out accelerated them easily, then they tried to change lanes to get ahead of me. So i changed lanes to keep them behind me. It'd be nice if they weren't idiots. They have the same car as me. And apparently the same engine size (dynasty and new yorkers came mostly with 3.0 and 3.3 v6 chrysler engines). It was an even match, they just had less balls than me on ice (wasn't terribly icy out anyway and why i out accelerated them).
