Pretty much. Though I think that it's a great opportunity to learn something about human psychology and brain functions. Even an ordinary check-up could give a lot of interesting data.
I hope that this baby will survive and live a life they(?) will want. Of course, it would never be normal, but life doesn't need to be normal to be happy, and that's what is important.

It appears to have been inappropriately added to the poll, as something like this is a congenital defect and has ****-all to do with genetic inheritance.     or evolution, I might add.

The side-bar mentions the Hensel twins, who were born similarly conjoined yet have managed to live a fairly-normal life by most accounts.  Hell, they even got their driver's licenses.  Hopefully these two wind up similarly healthy, and they're able to live out their lives.

I'm wondering how that sort of thing would work too. Also, does each brain get half the body to control, or is one dominant? What about autonomous bodily functions? If one brain should die for some reason, will the other be able to operate the whole body successfully?
At any rate, hope that they both survive and thrive.

At least with the Hensels, each twin was able to control half of the body, which made even simple tasks like walking an exercise in coordination.  I can't remember if each twin was able to feel sensations from the other half of the body, though.
