Sandwich - are you talking about this?
http://dreamhost.com/domains/i.e. you already have a VPS and are entitled to have a free domain with it? If so, I think you just click on the "transfer domain" link. In my experience, you also need the domain "PIN" or "registry key" in order to prove that you have the right to transfer the domain, you should be able to find this in the GoDaddy administration page for the domain... actually, this basic procedure is true regardless of which registrar you move the domain to.
Transferring the domain, if I'm understanding sandwich correctly, has nothing to do with adding/moving HLP to it, it's a matter of telling the current registar to point the DNS entries for the domain to the new IP's... well, after the VPS has the HLP stuff copied over to it and is configured to deal with the potentially new filesystem layout.
I think you're talking here about keeping GoDaddy as the registrar and hosting the DNS zones on the VPS? (please tell me if I'm wrong!) I didn't think this is what we were talking about doing - i.e. stop GoDaddy being our registrar because we don't trust them
