The ones up here are not lazy, they're aggressive, territorial, and daring constantly testing the luck of their human coexistence. Roof squirrel at my friend's place kept all the other squirrels out of the roof and away from the house. He kicked the ass of the alpha cat. Junior never went back up to house squirrel again. House squirrel was also not stealing insulation which was really odd. So, we fed him french fries and stuff when we could. He died one day at the end of summer stealing insulation from the roof of the shop via pellet gun.

Traps

I know a way to trap and kill squirrels
Take a log and lean it up against the tree. Take wire and form loops which when pulled, will tighten. Wrap many of these around the log
Wait for the squirrel to climb up said log. Now you ask yourself, why would a squirrel do that?

They're lazy and stupid.

Laugh later when you see a squirrel hanging itself off the log later on in the day

They will steal insulation from your house. And they will keep doing it because they're ballzy little ****ers. Killing them is the only thing that deters them. We like insulation up here during winter. My other friend was using a pump up pellet/bb gun and a blow gun. The blow gunned squirrels have a very hard time running away when they get skewered by the projectile.

Soffit, siding, and properly installed vents address that problem without involving wholesale slaughter of animals.
